I see some similarities in the overall design of the Apple model to NI's direction. What essentially could be only a few iterations of updates before only NI hardware and it's proprietary, what's it called, "native language", works with Traktor.
Of course, going that route may be foolish but the real money is hardware. HUGE market compared to the sales of Traktor, VDJ, Serato, et al.
