Seems like you all got up on the wrong foot today.
I was just trying to explain what good things piracy brought in my case, while guessing that I'm not the only one who did it like that. I WAS saving money to buy legit software. In the meantime I used pirated software, which I admitted is morally totally wrong. So get over it. I also walk red lights, and i even try to cheat the tax system as much as possible.
I was not about legitimating piracy at all, but that's where you are taking this debate now. So, I'm outta here.
Have a nice day :)
But weasel, you are making an argument that piracy is okay. You are making an argument to legitamize it because, well, you do it and others do it so we shouldn't get upset.
Some of us aren't going to let that fly around here.
i don't think cracks are are a immoral sin. unfortunately when your completely broke sometimes you've got to figure out how to get what you need in means other than intended. if you go selling it that's a different story, but if you were to just stand in someone else shoes & hear how "it's whack" &all this, it would look like some pretty snobby statements. - we are a community commonly dissed by "real" dj's, who use $1000 cdj's & technics 1200's so lets not be hypocrites here..
Well here's my spit, I have been DJing for 8 years now and have only now moved into the digital realm, in that time I purchased a healthy collection of vinyl but could never afford my own hardware as I was paying around $25 NZD for a 12", I ended up learning on my mates gear and went from there, now that I am purchasing my tunes in a digital format for a fraction of the price I feel that I have enough spare change in my DJ budget to afford some hardware and software of my own. As far as the hobbyist bedroom DJ is concerned, I feel that cracked software is an OK choice for them, as the financial breakdown in the development for software, these people only make up for a small percentage of the potential buyers of the software, so the company that produced the software wouldn't technically be loosing any money. But if you are a professional DJ you are the target market for the software so you should pay for it, and most, if not all of you will pay for it. The DJ world can be a clicky business and recently there was a crew over here in New Zealand that got absolutely rinsed out on facebook regarding payment for a gig which they thought wasn't enough, whilst they were using pirated software and tunes to DJ with. All in all if you are a professional you should pay for it, any way think of the money you are saving on tunes and running costs eg. needles and damage to vinyl, when you're DJing in the digital realm, it doesn't take long to have that software payed for when you considder the cost savings in other areas.
so all in all
Professional = Pay
Bedroom = Bludge
Crickey, sounding a bit like Malcolm X there "By any Means Necessary"
Hope that doesnt include robbing the odd bank ;)
You fall into the age old trap there my friend "If you go selling it" thats bad but not if you just use it. No-One would sell it if YOU didnt use it.
Its called 'Supply and Demand'
Theres no social divide on this community.
We arent talking about $1000 CDJs are we ?
We are talking about $199 software a or $500 DVS.
Something that anyone with a modest income and/or the will to save can afford. I would never look down my nose at someone less fortunate than me. Thats pretty offensive nevermind saying that people are being hypocritical.
I think you miss the point mate. If your gonna use cracked software, keep it to yourself and buy it when you can afford it. But dont make out that just because some people in the community are "real djs" that we dont understand.
Ive worked really hard for my gear. That gives the right to tell other people to work hard for theirs. And it gives me the perspective to know just how hard it is to get the money together for all this stuff.
Maybe im old fashioned bur when that box of DVS kit lands on your doorstep and you know its because you have worked and saved for it you have a sense that you really deserve it and it makes you appreciate it more and wanna use it more than some guy whos bodged together some piece of crap hack that fails and effs up all the time and ends up costing more than the real deal in the end.
Im no snob or a hypocrit. I might be a bit of a dick most of the time but hey, im English. Weve being dicks for 100s of years.
you make some fine points there karlos (especially the last one). have a beer :)
