its a blend of FB and twitter
it allows you to 'follow' people or be followed like on twitter without a mutual friendship/ following like on facebook, however the interface and features are similar to facebooks.
You forgot the best bits- the privacy settings and the fact it's not run by a company who make a profit selling your data.
Google in some shape or form will make cash off of everything you put into G+ too.Quote:

For some reason I don't care what Google knows about me, I trust them. Facebook.... not so much.
