Clearly manufacturers should just come in here and ask us instead of beating around the bush, it would save them a ton in R&D haha :p

we had a similar thread in here before. USB and Firewire ports where designed to use very little force to insert.

I have been thinking about adding a tiny bit of solder to make the connections a bit fatter so they have sit in tigther.

It depends on the driver IC used by device, but so does the overall latency of your built in port.
It most likely connects to the southbridge via the same interface as the main driver
