USB 2.0 has plenty enough bandwidth for sending MIDI and any amount of scrolling waveform HID information. You can bundle in your soundcard with it too. The effective throughput of USB 2.0 is 35MB/s.
If it was sending HD video then USB 3.0 would appropriate. Which it isn't.
The additional power available is an advantage.
