Yeah, the MM-1 is definitely much sexier- level meters, sturdier looking faders/encoders, etc.. but I'll look into both and see if I can get a decent price. Like I said I'm still just testing the waters at this point.

The X-Session Pro is the PERFECT beginners controller. It completely bridges the gap between mixing audio using a mixer, and mixing internally via midi.
Price vs. functionality is unmatched.
X-Session Pro plus Push with that Traktor mapping would be a cracking set up.
I really like that Push mapping actually... And to start you don't even need the x session pro cause it's got the x fader mapped to the push.
Don't think you can map Traktor LE though... just saying.
Traktor over Ableton for DJing fo' sho'
You can get a feel for it with a mouse etc but that won't be a "feel" for it. The other option is get a NI Z1 - it's a mixer with built in high quality soundcard and ships with traktor pro. Almost certainly what id do if I were u. I have a z1 and love it. Use it with an x1 mkii for home use. Z1 + push with that mapping would be a wicked set up!

Yeah that actually looks pretty legit. As it stands I don't really need a jogwheel, so that might be perfect.. I love me some NI hardware too..that'll definitely go on my list. You say it comes with Traktor Pro? From what I can tell it ships with LE.. If that's the case I might as well just grab the CMD MM-1 for half as much. Plus I still have to decide if Traktor is really the direction I want to go.. if not I can just stick with Ableton and run the X-Session Pro or Behringer MM-1 pretty cheap.
Yeah Z1 comes with LE and a voucher for £44 - Traktor Pro costs £89 so it'd be £45 on top for Pro...
Dunno man, that all seems reasonable for a high quality soundcard/mixer and Tpro but if you're not working I can see you might not want to take the plunge...
There are a LOT of ex-Ableton users here that have converted to Traktor. I (stubbornly) stuck with Ableton for far TOO long before switching to Traktor.
I love Ableton, it's flexibility is second-to-none. But that is a bit of a barrier for DJ'ing. The line between producing on the fly and DJ'ing gets TOO blurred, and you're simply SWAMPED in options at every turn. I cannot count how many different DJ Templates I made for Live. I never managed to create one that just allowed me to DJ naturally.
Switching to Traktor freed me up to actually DJ. Trust me, mate, you can save yourself a lot of hassle by keeping Ableton Live for production, and using Traktor to DJ.
(Saying that, if Ableton ever sorts out the midi sync issues I'd LOVE to have a set-up where Traktor outputs to separate Live channels, and then Live outputs to separate channels on my mixer... Live's routing and looping is a LOT of fun).
See how long you'd only want "basic" functionality once you know what Live is capable of.Quote:
