Are Pioneer CDJ 1000's (mk2 or 3) still relevant?

I would agree, if the OP was buying 2ks...but a pair of 1ks aren't exactly expensive...it also means he can use his existing mixer and controller.

Yes i use my old CDJs for timecode...i also compliment the modular setup with a zone 1d for transport and effect controls. Personally as a gigging DJ i find the modular set up suits me better...every club has CDJs and a mixer...all i need to add then is my 1d, and audio interface if the mixer isn't a 900.

You make a good argument, but I still just don't get it.

CDJ-1000mk3s still cost several hundred dollars each. And with timecode that effectively gets you more hardware to fail, more latency, a pitch fader, a platter, and play & cue buttons that don't really work right.

I'd buy 350s and deal with them feeling cheap and having no resale value long before I'd do that.

I've got a mate using 350's with Traktor in HID mode, and he is literally over the moon with it.

Yeah...I meant just using the USB. $500 is way too much to pay for a deck controller, IMHO.

See...this is why I haven't really owned Pioneer gear....I'm just not happy with what you get for the money unless you're going to go all out and buy the new top-end (or one down) deck right after it comes out.

but on the flip side, with a modular setup, you can afford lose a CDJ or TT or controller and still have enough equipment left working to finish a set. If you have an all in one type controller with built in sound card...and that dies...youre fu*ked....

I haven't had any issues with latency using timecode, and apart from a slight cue point drift, I've never had issues with play/cue, the pitch fader or platter.

my original point was trying to suggest that the OP didn't need to drop traktor from his setup as CDJs of any kind would be a direct replacement for his TTs

Maybe off topic, but how often does that occur? Over almost 30-years I've had two problems and they were both loose connections.

A pair of 1ks are f**** expensive compared to a pair of single deck controllers like eks otus, behringer pl-1 or denon sc2000.
And with them you also use the existing mixer but also get all the bells and whistles of Traktor (hotcues, efx control, etc). Not to mention, pa pair of them & laptop fit in any backpack ;)

Yeah, but that's mostly because it is the mixer.

It doesn't matter if you're on bulletproof 1200s and real vinyl....if the mixer dies, you're f'd. With DVS, you're just as reliant on your sound card.

I had a 1200 seize on me mid set. I was seriously like WTF?

The shaft just seized. We had to flip records on one deck while someone ran off and fetched one from their home.

semi off topic, but i'm using the 800 mk2's with timecode and an djm850. i gig at least once a week. i used to use an all in one S4, but it scared me knowing if my mixer died, i was screwed. or if my computer died i was screwed.

with my current setup, if my computer dies, i've got cd's, if one of my cd's dies, i can run off one deck mapped properly, if my mixer dies, i plug one cd player or ipod directly into the speaker.

i'm a mobile DJ mostly, and i need backup for my backup. depends what you're doing, and what you're comfortable. i need options, because clients are paying top dollar, and demand music.

just a thought
