256GB USB Flash or SD card for MacBook Air?

It's fast enough for most tasks, I didn't want an external drive or USB drives sticking out of the laptop, I just wanted additional storage I could add and forget about... I've stuck my entire music production library on it and it works fine...

SSD is best for the OS and apps, or in a situation where you work with really large files or lots of data at once... you don't really feel the benefit playing media files, maybe except from a slightly noticeable loading time. my main drive is an SSD and I barely notice the difference.

I really like these their fast and have had no issues besides they are a pain in the ass to pull out of a cdj because of the nub being small

I've had really good luck with patriot/Kingston/ and even silicone power? All the more expensive lines don't bother with cheap usb3 sticks you will find out why when you start moving 5-10gbs

I spend on average $25-$50 for a stick normally 32/64/128

If your using it lots I recommend having a backup of what's on it on a stick that gets used less just for safety sakes.

Example I had finally got a bunch of playlist organized in rekordbox on a stick how I wanted and was just kind of updating one of them and the computer I was using decided to take a dive and corrupted the rekordbox database... Needless to say I was very annoyed and kicking myself because I had spare sticks I could of backed up to buy didn't ... I did not loose any day at as the files were there just the playlists data and structure very frustrating when you realize 30hours of work is poof gonzo

USB flash, i was asking myself the same question but was told that they are very more reliable. And it has been a gem ever since.

I have a 28 gig partition which has Ubuntu installed + swapspace and a HFS+ partition of 100 GB to store media and other documents, and must say that with a read speed of ~150 MB/s I'm very impressed, especially since it costs 40 euro's for 128 GB. Would recommend.

Those are the only USB sticks I buy these days. :thumbup1:

But theye were a little fidly to get in and out... The Ultra's are perfect - small enough to not get in the way, and just enough finger space to make 'em easy to get in and out.

I can't imagine why any DJ would use any other stick.

Never seen those flush 3.0s but just picked up a 256gb 3.0 and have been pleased with speeds using wav files.... No dropouts or lag.

You want to be careful with the flush ones though if your gigs are long. They are known to get quite hot.
