woodden vci body

If you finish it with spar varnish, or another high durabililty finish, it should be perfectly durable. I mean, electric guitars are finished with lacquer (which isnt too durable), and people have been gigging with those for like, 60 years now. I actually think I might undertake this project at some point (should probably focus on trying to actually get gigs first huh....). I've built a number of electric guitars from the ground up, as well as a couple ukuleles. This would be a fun project.

Nah man! Have you not played guitar? the whole thing is made out of wood, and I do plenty o knob twiddling, switch flicking, plus I'm up and down the wooden fretboard haha.

While this is an interesting project I suppose, I think the top/face plate is gonna be a huge problem.

Firstly it will pretty much HAVE to be CNC'd to get all the holes and gaps in the correct places, no one could do all that accurately by hand, and i'm fairly experienced with woodwork.

Secondly it'll have to be pretty thin, like 3 or 4 mils max, so that the jog wheels, knobs etc etc can still connect to their places on the motherboard. wont be very hard wearing. Think i'd still rather stick to metal to be honest.

it will be pretty damn difficult to get the top plate done by hand. Not impossible, with a router, and accurate diagram, and a dremel. also... It can be at least an 1/8th in thickness, as that is the thickness of the aluminum, perhaps a bit thicker, and def thicker in the parts without holes. Like I said, something finished with spar varnish, or even polyurethane, would make a near indestructible finish. Nitro (my finish of choice) would not hold up to the job. But I have access to a wood cnc at school... so I might try and do it there.

oh yeah my buddy has access to a wood cnc at work. and kevin ur right about the faceplate. this is right now a problem we are thinkin about
