For production/mixing purposes? Or for strictly monitoring/djing purposes?

Just DJing. Something to sit comfortable on my ears for 2-3 hours on a very powerful sound system.
A few questions...What are you using now for headphones? And what type of music do you mix? How loud do you mix?
Hmm....a few concerns with the 990...you may experience trouble isolating sound. 990's are open headphones, great for listening, possibly some production, not really for isolating or monitoring. Open headphones leak a lot but also sound more "open" and "free" than closed headphones. Most dj headphones are closed for that purpose. Also, the model you chose is the 600 ohm version, even though the 900 nexus is a powerful mixer, you still may have some trouble driving the headphone to levels you may be used to. I sometimes use my Sennheiser HD600 headphones as a change of sound. I also have a lot of in-ear monitors that I have also used with success. The 770-80 ohm may be a better choice if you want comfort (clouds) on your ears, however, they still don't perform as well as some other headphones in that price range.
I'm using the hd25s. Sound great but make my ears feel like fortune cookies after about an hour. Mixing disco and deep/disco/soulful house.
I still highly recommend the hd8. The price is very much worth it, you will probably never need another dj headphone ever again. I can't imagine using anything else for dj use now. I had the same problem with the clamping force of the hd25. I also mix deep/soulful house. I have velour pads on the hd8, so comfy you could sleep with them on.
How do the velour pads feel on the hd25s?
Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna try and test drive those HD8s. Christmas is around the corner.
the wood grain skins are so awesome
Hi, first of all AMAZING setup i currently have the Xone92 fader model and i am also thinking about getting the empath rotary just to get that rotary feel and have the best of both world. The thing that i am concern is that as the empath rotary is discontinued would i be able to get parts (specially de channel faders) if they get broken?. Also could you please elaborate on those rotary knobs you put on your x1 will love some of those for my setup. Anyways thanks for showing this art you call setup!
Thx
Hey guys been a while since I updated my post. I added a few new things to my setup, but big additions are the RMX-1000's. Amazing.

Hey MrAybar, thank you for the kind words. I appreciate you noticing that my setup is somewhat artful. If you like the xone92 linear, it only gets better with the rotary model. You will definitely get the best of both worlds then. I've owned the Empath Rotary and while it looks nice, I wasn't really wowed by it. It is also only three-channels. The 92 has alot more routing options. You are definitely downgrading if you move to the empath coming from a 92. You can find new 92R's on eBay or dealers near the $1400-$1500 range if you look. The metal rotary knobs are from radio shack. However, I reverted back to the DJTT knobs if you look on the last picture I've updated, first post. I couldn't be happier with what I have now.
The RMX is a great unit. I've had plenty of experience with many effect units...and from Pioneer the EFX500/1000 series. The RMX is a completely different beast IMHO. To be real, I am not really big on effects. I am one of those "use sparingly", kind of like salt or hot sauce. Too much and you ruin the balance. To be honest, I really did not need the RMX's...considering how much the X1 (with my current mapping) does for me already. Overkill isn't a word I use when feeling the need to purchase new equipment! I actually still use the X1 in my sets very much so. The RMX is a beast of a machine, and alot of what is done cannot be replicated on a midi unit with my current setup. I love the isolators, the ability to use software/SD to modify and tweak the sound, as well as the overall layout of the unit. The hardest part of setting everything up was the wiring and the stands. Other than that, the units were pretty much plug and play. Again, I've had a ton of setups, ATM (and probably forever) I couldn't be happier with this setup.
I've only put my hands on them a couple times... so very limited experience and was wondering how you use them. I don't use effects too much (like your seasonings metaphor), but am still curious.
Np blatterjr, there are many midi, effect controllers out now, almost too many to pick from. I like the hardware approach of the RMX unit, even though it is midi capable. I really only use the unit on buildups and breakdowns of songs/transitions. I have to say, most DJ's probably use this approach for the most part. The RMX actually has a buildup/breakdown section. It is actually pretty ingenious I have to say. Mixing out of breakdowns and buildups is extremely satisfying. I use alot of the quarter/half tempo delays and echoes along with some subtle flange/distortion type effects. There are alot of great combinations of effects to link together. And the best part is the release lever. It resets all your values and brings you back to the mix, unaffected. Like pure mixing/blending...effects are really an art in their own way. I feel it's about finding what feels and fits right, and then creating-perfecting.
Sounds like something I might be interesting in acquiring... need to get some hands on time. :thumbup1:
Nice addition, but i was wondering you stated that you like the isolators on the RMX have you ever considered getting an analog isolator? Let me tell you, i have a rather cheap vestax one that i use with my xone92 and the combination of the xone filters with the isolators are just amazing! One of my next acquisition its going to be the bozure table isolator i just felt in love with the sound manipulation you can get with them! Will really love to see one in your setup! Again you sir have impeccable taste, when possible i would really like to listen to a dj set by you!
By the way are those UREI faceplates i see in the background??
I've had analog isolators in the past. The Xone92 filters do a wonderful job as it is. More toys=more noise. (Beautiful noise, haha) I was looking at picking up a unit like the Bozure, but figured it was best to pick up the RMX. I have to say, the isolators are absolutely great on the rmx. They do the job right. I appreciate the love Aybar. My next step is to video record some sets on post up online. I am at the moment only posting through google drive to some old school house heads/djs. They are liking what I'm posting so, I figure next step is to use a service like mixcloud to broaden my audience. I am a house head for sure.
Perfect, please feel free to let me know when/where i can hear some of your sets! Am a house head too! My respects!
Nice setup man! Thinking about snagging some rotaries myself. Have you ever found yourself wishing you had regular faders?
Replaced my Xone 92 with the new Rane MP 2015. Better in every way!

Oh no you didn't. Looks tight AF!
Awsome setup! Love the rotary mixer.
Nice, Rane Rotary Mixer.
Nice setup I have a 92 as well what do feel is better as I have been looking at the 2015 as well
I actually wasn't planning on picking up the 2015 for an year or two. The 92 decided to pop, crackle, and fade on me. Very disappointing. I will never purchase another A&H again. Never thought it would cheap out on me. Besides that, the 2015 is a superior mixer in every way. Sound, build and feel. You will be able to tell immediately.
