BTW did anybody on here ever contribute to the NSB forum when it had traffic?
I did have a bash over there many years ago. It was pretty popular at the time. Guys like Ben and Lex were pretty prolific over there.
NSB Radio is still pretty good. One guy over there (Doctor Hooka) is REALLY pushing the Ghetto Funk sound. His mixes are pretty damn good as well.
Must admit I stopped listening to it ages ago, but probably more of a time thing. I remember the Autobots and one of the Groove Diggerz used to post there :)
One mix I found on NSB contained a mash up of Rogue Element's rmx of Nitro - Violence and the piano / vocals from FSL's Papua New Guinea... it was GENIUS.
I tend to tune into Llupa's and Roxright's sessions on NSB Radio from time to time.
:o Its almost 10 years since I stopped playing breaks. Great that is still living
FSUK 2 3x12" by Freestylers was in my crate for many years. I think its still the best ever Big Beat/Breaks vinyl compilation made :-)
Last time i saw the Plumps was a while back in Fabric and there wasn't one break played. Was all really electorey and bloody horrible IMO. Stantons just play b-more stuff now which bores me after a while and Evil Nine play house. Hell the only big cats who still play breaks are the Freestylers and Deekline.
Please keep these coming. I'm starting a collaborative Spotify playlist with as many of these tunes as possible. I'll share when it's ready and you all can add to it. I'm so excited!

This is the best bit of breaks i've heard in a while and really brings back that old Stanton sound that got me hooked in the first place. Video ain't too shabby either.
In my opinion this is one of the greatest DJ battles of ALL TIME!!!!!!
its more of a B2B thing, but some of the best breaks i have ever heard!!

For those interested I've started a collaborative playlist that you can access here:

Feel free to add to it.
I mainly get booked for playing breaks at festivals / clubs etc. Been hammering them home for a good 12+ years. Tracks signed on Breakz R Boss, Young NRG, Lucky Break, and East Van Digital.
I used to play a show on NSBradio - Canadian Back Breakin. ran it for a bout 6 years straight every Tuesday night. Even won a couple awards there for best radio show / Dj
Had a great time at Breakspoll in London in 2012, it was nice to meet some other like minded Djs/Producers :)
If you're ever in the Vancouver/Van Isle area drop a line! Nice to see breaks getting some more love these days since they pretty much kick ass. Breaks is a great family!
Definitely share the list when set up. I don't have enough breaks on Spotify... here are a couple more I used to overplay (can't double check they're the right ones because I'm at work but I'll look later):

How many breaks fans have we got in this thread alone?
I say we each pick a track, and all make a mix using only those tracks.
Post 'em here.
I should sneak this classic in sometime.

I'm hearing lots of break beat techno records coming out as well. Great way to break up a 4 to the floor set.
This is my kind of thread!!! It's been a while since I have been behind the decks but here is one of my all time favorites.

When I first started DJing in early '96, it was strictly DnB/Jungle.
Then in 1999, I heard "Paranoia" by Rennie Pilgrem, and from that point it was sooo on!
I started buying up all the TCR, Botchit, Marine Parade, Mob Records, Distinctive Breaks, etc..,
records I could get my hands on. I still have over 400+ NuSkool Breaks records.
I too have been wishing for Breaks to make a comeback in a big way. Obviously, you can still
get some good tunes from all sorts of labels (not even Breakbeat affiliated), but I mean, I want
Breaks to be as popular as they were from '99 til' '07......that was the Golden Era of Breaks, IMO.
Just a small sampling of my favs....

Breaks have the perfect tempo for dancing!!
My first show was DJ Dan opening for Uberzone opening for The Crystal Method. Breaks are in my blood lol. Haven't posted in this in awhile, but shooting through my playlist for tomorrow. Playing a breaks tag set with one of buddies at a big halloween show :) A lot of times I go heavy on the Florida sound, but trying to shy away from that a bit for this one and get a bit more melodic.
I'm particular fond of the frenzy remix of this track, but can't find it hosted online and I am not going go crazy posting it or hunting it down.

DJ Mag is running a 4-page article on the (re-) rise of breakbeat.
Breaks is most certainly back, my breaks loving brethren!
blackavenger - you are the FUCKING MAN!!!
You reminded me of one my favourite tunes of all tine - that I have not listened to in years and years!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC0GXQNO3Lo
I could cry.
But....I'll be honest.
I have been playing breaks for 10 years and I know many of you have been playing breaks for even longer.
I started playing them again and now every 18 year old trap turn up dj in my city is jumping on the breaks bandwagon.
The fact that they are playing breaks doesn't make me mad, but they are only playing them because its "cool" to play breaks now.
I really do hate djs that have never played a certian style EVER, then they jump on facebook and make a post asking people to give them good breaks tracks....
And somehow within a month or two these bedroom djs are throwing these big breaks events and all the kandi kids are goin nuts...
And im like...yeah ive just been over here hustling and getting really nowhere.
I guess its time for me to move back into good DnB, to stay ahead of the posers.
end rant...... :) :) :)
oh by the way...this is as real as it gets right here. this is something i would play in a breaks set.

I won a remix contest with Breakz R Boss records recently...should be out soon :)
Just finished a little album too, loads of breaks in there: http://www.djjprime.com/album/jprime-broken-party/
love it man!! good beats.
Let me ask you, what style of breaks would you call your remix.
Its obviously flordia/booty, but there are many diffrent types of timing and beat patterns that are considered flordia/booty.
Just looking for your input, on what you think your sound is... Its pretty Plump Dj'esque with very syncopated bassline
If that makes any sense.
also....:) :) any possibility of getting the Dub of that track :) :) d031999rowley@gmail.com
Ha ha makes perfect sense :) I was actually totally going for an old school kinda FL / booty sound, so you're pretty much spot on. Quite often I find my tracks heading into electro ish territory, so for this one I wanted to keep it a bit more open...less pads / synths and kinda let the vocal go.
Here is a breaks remix my mate did of The Kills.
Yeah, my friend Danny (DJ Resist) made this sweet Breaks remix
of D-Kay & Rawfull (IllSkillz) - "I'll Be There 4 You"......
Original:

His Remix:
As much as I loved the original back in the day, I can't help
but think it sounds better at this tempo.
This is not important, but I'm curious - by quick show of hands, how do people think the title of this thread should be written:
1) Breaks are Back!!! Or;
2) Breaks is Back!!!
Personally, I'd say Breaks is Back - because we're talking about "Breaks" as a genre, and not more than one "Break"...
But I'm wierd like that...
That is a good question. I vote for "are", because "breaks" are the sounds that make up the genre... Of breaks. I guess, I don't really see breaks as a genre, I see it as other genres like House, Bassline and Garage with breakbeats on top of it. It's a really wide and varied genre, so for me, everything is a different genre with breakbeats added to it.
Breakbeat is back. Breaks are back. Just my preference.
Good way of putting it, Sir Real.
I always used Breaks as a shorthand way if saying Breakbeat. But using Breaks as shorthand for The Breaks works roo...
