The macs do cost more, but if you tried to buy software that did everything iLife does as well as it does for the PC I think you would end up spending nearly as much money. Don't forget refurb. I've bought 2 refurb mac's and a refurb iPod touch and all three have been great.

Allow me to preface this by saying that I have taught graphic design for 6 years in a mac lab of juiced up mac pros and have owned macs and pc's (sometimes at the same time) for years.
I do think the mac is more "idiot proof" for sure and if your just djing and not producing if you can afford it it may be the better choice. However, you can get a pc with comparable specs for over a thousand less and if money is a factor in your decision (as it is for most) I don't see it as necessary. I wish people would stop being blind lemmings following what they thought was the cooler system to run. Windows 7 x64 is stable. I use it for my live performances with my virus ti running in ableton with an apc 40 and with my vocoder and fx racks going through the set as well and I have to say I have had zero problems. Then again i know how to use a pc. I have heard horror stories yes but I have always found them to be the cause of the user...(post win 7)
I'm a fan of both platforms so you really can't lose but I am also a fan of buying more gear. So if you can free up some extra cash in your budget for a controller etc... maybe consider the pc. My main point is don't believe people that say windows isn't stable as if you know how to use it (and you actually pay for the os!) it will treat you right. I have total faith in my setup. Personally, I think if you are going to buy a laptop, you dont need something as high end or "thin" as the Adamo, seriously. You can buy another nice performance laptop with an ssd most likely for a much cheaper-ish price
I know a lot of you these guys have complained about Windows being faulty/buggy/bsod and all, but that all depends on the user, if he/she's an idiot.
I do agree with the Mac's being idiot proof that way, but I dont believe in spending so much money on any macbook just for idiot-proof reasons. You can have a Windows laptop that you install/use nothing else but Traktor/Ableton/whatever, and it'll serve you great.
In the end it is your choice.
Also, theres something in this world called Windows 7, its great.
Both of the above posts are right. if your somewhat competent with a PC you can save a lot of money for more gear by getting a PC over a mac.

Vista for 2 years and one blue screen. XP for 6 years of hardcore technical work (web application server admin) and maybe 3 in that entire time. The BSOD excuse is getting really thin these days.Quote:

if you had asked what controller to buy - same thing. we as forum members can speak to the feel, build quality, durability, features that we like, etc. But at the end of the day - we all treat our equipment differently and want different things from it.
the Lenovo suggestion is not a bad one - then you're running windows.;)
i didnt read everyones comments but seemed to be close to even maybe leaning towards windows just because its less money, and i agree with just that, i have had my dell xps 16 for 4 months now with windows 7 ultimate 64bit and it has been nothing but great, i have never seen traktor hickup while running 4 decks, nor any softwear, and the specs r slightly higher than the macbook pro that would compete with it, because you really cant do anything about the fact that they do utilise compontens to there fullest and there systems run really good. but for $950 CAD i got
dual 2.8 intel processor
1 gb HD4500 graphics card for the 15.6 lcd 1080p monitor wich is wonderful because in full screen traktor i can have all 4 effects banks open and my recording and master clock interface open without having to switch between
a backlit keyboard(great for in the clubs if its dark)

a 300gb HDD, upgradable to SDD
3 usb, e sata, hdmi, rga, firewire, 2 card clots, slot load disk drive, display port for mac monitors, 2!!!!! headphone outs, wich if you have a cheap at home setup, allow you to headphone cue WITHOUT a souncard, wich was great when i wasnt mixing externally,
anyway, get a dell, i recomend xps 16, if you havnt chosen already
