It puts me to fucking sleep, to be quite honest; I don’t really see the technical merit in repeating the same bassline the entire song with a synth over that and it bores me to fucking tears and hopefully, with all due respect to the Producer type that will fucking go the way of the dinosaur, I'd like them to dis-a-fucking-pear! It's so middle man, they’re like fucking lawyers! You need them, but they’re fucking cunts. God bless them, they’re my number one customer right, so I’m not gonna go dis every fucking Producer. But to say you become this massive, "up on a podium" performer by using other people's samples, in the same repetitive way the entire song and sounding like everyone else's productions and acting like you know how to make music, I don’t get it... They should at least learn how to play an instrument, not just re-arrange synthetic noises over and over.

It may be that the purpose of his life is to serve as a warning of what not to do.
Other than that, he's a worthless sack of crap.
I've seen archives of him on djf's internet radio when he was broadcasting video. I've read his old forum postings. I've watched the way he treats people backstage. And I've talked to other people who he pissed off at WMC/UMF by basically just being a worthless little bitch and hating basically every other performer there. I had a press pass to ultra, and out of the countless performers I shot (as in photos) and/or met, there are 3 that I specifically never want to see again…and he tops the list.
In a vague, general sense, I agree with you. I firmly believe that I'm here in this life to learn things and to try to make some small part of it better in whatever ways I can. In reality…there are a lot of worthless people out there. And if you can't help them, it's best to just stay the hell away.
It just sickens me that people still spend money on his crap…especially people who he explicitly disrespects.
Besides…his music (productions) isn't garbage…but it's very replaceable. It doesn't push any envelopes, it doesn't stand out, and it doesn't really do anything new.
Considering how much of a bitch he is in person, his music isn't even good enough to pirate.
fuck deadmau5.
Aww don't hate on the mau5, he gives people exactly what they want. Expertly engineered cookie cutter tunes. Every genre has those producers who are REALLY good at making tunes sound huge, with killer kicks and bass, sharp highs, snappy snares and a real presence is felt when those tunes drop. It has an effect that is for sure. Track goes oomph, hands go up, people yell and that drunk douchebag that's standing next to you just rained down his palm-warmed flat beer all over your brand new kicks...awesome.
However from a chin-stroking, musically interesting standpoint it falls flat. It doesn't do anything and you know it, everyone in the audience knows it. But that's not why we're at a club, at least not 90% of the people there anyway. Most are there for fun, alcohol and to chase tail. Not listen to sonically interesting music.
So to deride him for being good at something I think is a bit unfair. Deep down even if we don't like his musical output we all partly wish we knew how to engineer tunes the way he does, or how Eric Prydz does, or Subfocus, Pendulum, Adam F, Dillinja, Nero or the massive laundry list of producers that has played to the crowd and produced massive sounding musically boring dancefloor bangers.
I don't doubt his production skills. I frankly don't care about them. And I am not dissing them, neither are most of the others here.
It's the social skills and the knowledge about the nature of DJing he either does not have or is hiding really well. I mean, if he feels bored by watching a DJ "perform", it's his problem that he's the type of guy that goes to a party to watch the DJ - instead of, well, you know - partying. Wanna see someone perform? Visit a Kylie Minogue concert. Wanna have a great night partying with your mates to some sick music? Go to the club.
Dissing DJs, who are an important customer group and PR channel for dance music producers, is stupid in an epic way, and the way Deadmau5 does shows supreme contempt about those who help this rotting rodent to pay his bills. Does he appreciate what you and I do? Obviously not. He ridicules it, at the same time showing that he has no concept what it is about. Why should I respect someone who reduces me to a jukebox, just because I am busy DJing properly instead of giving a performance, jumpin around behind my decks in a glitter suit and screaming "yooooooo" into the mike every five seconds?
You, the DJ, are not out there to give a performance. You have to take care that people have a great party. Going crazy with a quadrillion of beatmasher FX and loop juggles may work for some, but in the end it's not about that. It's selection, reading the crowd, not exhausting the people by playing all your bangers and hymns before midnight, et cetera, yadayada, you all know the deal. And yes, you need the technical skill and a basic understanding of how music works as well. it's still going to f*** things up when you read the crowd properly, choose the perfect tunes and mix them in an incredible trainwreck because you either can't beatmatch, are drunk or have set your beatgrids wrong, song keys clash badly, levels aren't in check or you're juggling a BeeGees vocal in perfect timing to a neurofunk remix of metallica's greatest hits mashup, which may well be a unique performance but just won't work on the musical side of things.

No doubt he has a serious case of speaking before thinking and an almost savant-like knack for totally putting his foot in his mouth.
Some people are just incredibly full of themselves and feel like their position in life gives them free license to say whatever they want and have there be no repercussions. It is often a combination of incredibly inflated ego, youth, and being a spoiled brat.
I feel like Joel is one of those people, he was kind of a douche even way back when when he was just a punk kid from Niagara Falls trying to produce Capital J style jump-up and going to Hullabaloo's with his big white gloves and Pikachu backpack.
so much hate for someone thats doing there thing however crap we percieve it as individuals.would some people on here be more vocal than deadmau5 if they were in his position?
come on people
back to the music;)
I don't hate him one bit, in fact I think he's a pretty brilliant producer and engineer. He really has a knack for mixing, rhythm and sound design. I also own a bunch of his tunes, partly because they are bangers like it or not and mostly to reference the drums and bass against stuff I make. I think his engineering output is pretty good when compared to a lot of other electro house producers. I do the same for artists like Miles Dyson, Feed Me, Wolfgang Gartner et al. I don't always like what they do musically, but god damn it sounds amazing and punchy on some loud stacks.
He just doesn't make himself very popular by what essentially amounts to thinking out loud in the middle of recorded interviews. He ought to realize that DJs made him who he is and it frequently doesn't pay in the long run to bite the hand that feeds.
You guys are serious haters, the amount of posts I have read abusing Deadmau5 on this forum alone is ridiculous!! You guys really need to stop with all the bull shit. You need to question yourself, have you achieved as much as Deadmau5? NO. You may hate but you would kill to be in his position with his status. He can't be that shit, his tours are sold out everytime....guesse who I'm going to see tonight in Manchester?? DEADMAU5!!!!!
No one said he can;t produce.....
What they are saying is that his attitude sux.....
And that after all the hype and shit....his tunes are not GROUNDBREAKING....
Sure...he had a few good tunes and had the crowd on his side etc....but lets see how long he delivers....thats the test innit?
