I think I'd rather be patient and not have solder all over the connection
points, just for an upgrade. I do think the upgrade kit would be best if it had a usb connection instead of a dated serial input.

Well, of course if you're used to soldering, this is probably nothing to freak out about...
But since I don't have several hundred hours of experience, still am nervous... did practice on another board before too ;)
And yes, this is straight USB, the serial converter is in the cable itself (a chip).
This is the pre-end result... female part will be screwed in the back panel... don't have my drill in my dorm :S
Second picture is the cable... it has the links between ground pins and vcc pins... this way when the cable is unhooked, it's not stuck in boot mode! ;)
Also have to glue the connections :)
