mostapha - why do you say that?
I would not get a set of 1000s over any new ones at all. The features on the news ones seriously out weight the cdj 1000 by a mile.
Price and feel. The 2000s are better, because they feel the same with more features. But they also cost almost 3 times as much. I'd rather buy a full setup than a sing cdj. Burning CDs isn't that annoying.
Everything else is varying levels of worse build quality and feel.
If I could get 850s new for cheaper than 1000s used (in good shape), I might do that. But I'm really not sure. But I don't think I'd buy any of the others.
To an extent I agree with mostapha in that I wouldn't shell out for CDJs that didn't at least have the full sized jog wheel. Anything less than that and you might as well be buying a midi controller for a fraction of the price.
Also, don't be afraid of the fact that it doesn't play mp3 cd's. Mp3 cd's are convenient but not necessary. Others would argue that they are a detriment.
mp3s suck.
Best advice: do not teach yourself to hear the difference.
fullenglishpint's advice is probably more sane, and I agree. IMHO, nothing below the 800 series feels better than the $200 controllers. VCI-100s (the platters, at least) feel better than most.
If you're going to go CDJ, either go insanely cheap or go all out. All of the in-between stuff is crap.
And again, I prefer to say it this way…I don't think anything but the 1000 and 2000 are worth paying for…I can't/don't want to pay for them, so I don't own CDJs.
Check out the CDJ350s , i really like the rekordbox compatiblity. And as clubs are probably updating to CDJ-2000 you can use your USB-sticks for them too!
I had 800mk2's, then 1000's, then 2000's now im back to turntables
i would seriously recommend getting the 800mk2 or 1000MK3 for starting out, i paid £700 for my 800MK2's and that was 2 years ago then £900 for my 1000mk3's early last year (both used) so theyll no doubt have dropped by now.
Would the cdj-400 usb memory stick not be compatible with today's club standards? Just curious...
I would love to find the CDJ-400 limited edition (all blacks) decks somewhere.
Any CDJ 400 new in box actually... anyone know where????
I loved my CDJ 1000's (mk2's) when I had a full setup. I had a few friends with the lower models, and one thing that I always missed on the lower models is when they don't display a waveform. When I started with vinyl, I watched the highlights (dark and light sections) seen on the vinyl to know where the breakdowns and buildups were. This has always been very important to me, and something that I love having in great detail when playing with Traktor. I'd never want to play on a CDJ (in public) that doesn't offer that feature.
