Justin Bieber + Dubstep = Justep?

Sure it's the first pop dubstep track from someone at justin bieber's level. But it's definitely not the first pop dubstep song. Katy B has been doing that for awhile.

In the end I just think everyone is making a big deal over something that doesn't really mean much.

^Wowowow back up there son, in regards to katy B, there is a huge difference between Katy B's dubstep tracks and what JB just put out.

Katy B is down with rinse FM, THE pirate radiostation that kickstarted dubstep on a global level, they had listeners locked in across the globe.
Also very important is the fact that her songs are produced by fucking magnetic man, none other then benga, skream and artwork.
Sure these dudes also went a bit more mainstream but at least they were the real OGs some time ago.
That's still gonna give you a more quality track then, like xone said, a generic producer.


And the snoop dog track is not even in the same freaking leage, it's just eastern jam with snoop's vocals on top. Thus it also has a quality track underneath that was altered for fame and whealth's sake.


EDIT: Now that I looked into it, the snoop track is not even a legit one, it's just the work of a bedroom producer.
And also fyi rinse FM is a legit station now.

If Just Bieber starts spinning Soulful House, then I'll worry.

I don't think you understand what I was trying to say. I already know and understand everything you said about Katy B, Magnetic Man, and Rise. I was just making a simple statement that pop dubstep is nothing new.

But all I was trying to say that no matter what nothing will "kill" a genre. Especially when it's just someone popular dabbling in it. The world just keeps turning.

I agree with you on the fact that pop dubstep is nothing new, it's in cornflakes commercials after all :D
But I can enjoy the Katy B song a lot more then the JB one. And also wanted to point out to everyone else that the people who made the underlying beat are probably very different, what will have an effect on the style and feel of the song.

I also am aware that chase & status are not bedroom producers, I was very aware of this when they were performing live in front of my face at Rock Werchter and at I Love Techno a couple months later. (WOW! They are amazing live, they have an mc that is a great addition to their performance.)
But that video makes it look like someone pirated a daw, took eastern jam, found a snoop dog vocal, did a little cutting here and there and threw em together.

And also couldn't agree more that a genre can be killed, definitely not by a single song, in fact I think a got a post in this thread here somewhere where I said that the world will just keep on spinning.
