yeah the whole impedance thing was my next question.
hmm... one amp you say?.. I'll try it. cuz I dont see myself upgrading any time TOO soon so I could return one amp and save myself $400 USD
will it increase the wattage for channel 1 AND 2? so my tops will get increased wattage?
-
the subs are 400watt rms. wont matter that i'd be feeding them less wattage than that with a single amp in xover mode?
-
think of channel 1 and 2 as kind of seperate amps.
things running out of channel 1 dont effect channel 2. the back of your setup has 2 speakon jacks, and 2 1/4 right? Essientially, what you are doing when you run the cable form sub to sub, is putting it in parallel, which, per ohms law, decreases resistance (impedence) by a factor of 2 (halves it). its a little difficult to grasp at first, but it will drop the 8 ohm rating on your subs to 4 ohms, which lets your amp push out more voltage.
Because your tops are also 8 ohm rated, and they also have enough jacks to wire things in parallel, you can do the same thing with them, to achieve the same effect.
Honestly, its a matter of taste. I drive 2 tops and 2 subs off of one amp (crown xti 2000), because I love the portability of the setup. As I expand, I will add another amp, and possibly an external crossover (mainly so I dont have to keep buying Xti's, and can buy cheaper, but equally beefy amps).
EDIT
As for the RMS thing, there is no such thing as underpowering. The only thing you need to watch out for, is keeping your amp out of clipping, as that can damage the drivers. To really protect your drivers you need a fast acting hardwall limiter, but as long as you pretty careful with you setup, you should be fine to run it full out (just under clipping).
The tops I would run lower than all out though.

cool!! I'm definitely gonna try some stuff out with the setup.. in a couple hours haha
thanks! sine!

mauve is exactly right.you can hear the difference quite plainly.shame though 'cause they do look good.

question:
I have NI AudioDJ2, so I have one speaker Out available.
do I connect both outputs (grey and orange) to channel's 1&2 respectively?
or just one of them Only into channel 1.
guitar center couldn't help...
-
I'm just confused cuz the amp says to only connect channel 1... what do I do with the other (split) stereo out?..
-
I figured it out! haha ok time to see how everything sounds!

I used to own the Tapco thumps (mackie owns tapco, they discontinued the tapco thumps to release them as mackie). They are great powered fullrange speakers.
