This is quite interesting really. It really shows the push and pull of promoters, and the availability of "bad" DJ's flooding the market. I know in my local area a lot of the guys who have gone down a more technologic route (traktor mainly, people don't hate so much on Serato) get a lot of shit for it. Just for using sync really, even if their sets are tight and the crowd/sound is rocking.
But that's mostly from other DJ's who are complete vinyl/cdj purists.
I couldn't imagine someone asking you to play with someone else's music. Equipment? Sure really. But music? Fuck off. If they want to hear a certain selection of tunes, just have that guy play for an extra hour.
It amazes me how behind some places are. Don't get me wrong, I love CDJ's and TT's, but I also have an equal love for pushing technology to it's limits. As I'm not someone playing out every night, but still going to shows as part of the crowd, I enjoy seeing how the DJ's put on their particular sets.
This thread really re-affirms however that I should really just pony up and buy CDJ's and learn to beatmatch by ear. Because I want to have that skill to fall back on if all else fails.
