and that's EXACTLY what my first post regarding self-respect was referring to.
BTW, I also went the "accept my terms or fuck off" route. being arrogant isn't my style, but when people overstep their boundaries, sometimes I do too :)

That's awesome!!!! lmfao :D
This is quite interesting really. It really shows the push and pull of promoters, and the availability of "bad" DJ's flooding the market. I know in my local area a lot of the guys who have gone down a more technologic route (traktor mainly, people don't hate so much on Serato) get a lot of shit for it. Just for using sync really, even if their sets are tight and the crowd/sound is rocking.
But that's mostly from other DJ's who are complete vinyl/cdj purists.
I couldn't imagine someone asking you to play with someone else's music. Equipment? Sure really. But music? Fuck off. If they want to hear a certain selection of tunes, just have that guy play for an extra hour.
It amazes me how behind some places are. Don't get me wrong, I love CDJ's and TT's, but I also have an equal love for pushing technology to it's limits. As I'm not someone playing out every night, but still going to shows as part of the crowd, I enjoy seeing how the DJ's put on their particular sets.
This thread really re-affirms however that I should really just pony up and buy CDJ's and learn to beatmatch by ear. Because I want to have that skill to fall back on if all else fails.
I'm I wannabe Dj? This question comes to my mind when I read topics like this.
I've been playing about 6 months now and really enjoy playing. I have touched TT's and CD's couple of times, but can't really use them good. That's because I haven't get much of opportunities to mess with them. And of course DJ TT have lot to do with the reasons for my digital DJing. :)
I normally use VCI-100se + midifighter + audio 2 dj + traktor pro. I have had one gig (where the event organiser pointed my gear and asked what the fuck are those) and another coming up. I find my music mainly from blogs and soundcloud and buy all what I can. I don't have even one vinyl or CD.
So, Dj TT jury, what do you say?
If you're playing records well, you're a DJ. If you buy the gear, download your record collection from a torrent site (ie - not build it up over time to reflect your own tastes) and DON'T put in all of the hard work needed to become a GOOD DJ - you're a wannabe.
You don't STOP being a DJ if you swap from decks to controllers, so how can starting on controllers STOP you from becoming a DJ.
(Downloading from blogs doesn't make you a wannabe - downloading without listening DOES).
Not a wannabe. You're trying, and going at it in the correct manner despite what vinyl purist think. You're legitimately trying to obtain a legal collection of music, even though most blogs are technically a legal loophole more than a 100% legal way of getting tracks.
It's like sports. If you play sports on a highschool team, are you still an athlete? Just because you aren't in a pro league or minor league, doesn't mean you aren't doing the same job, just not at the same level, or perceived level in a lot of pro DJ cases.
Ok, so I'm an (exceptional) electrician. I'm also handy around woodwork, plumbing and plastering. Do you think I should be coming round you house to hang doors, connect sinks and toilets, or plaster your walls?
Serious question. I just think your analogy is flawed. I'm not having a pop at the original poster....
