Looks like the small ones are just the gain then?
It really does get tricky at times. I've got my S2 mapped in this fashion and it can be confusing. Are the two "tempo +/-" looking buttons above the RGB pads deck a/c and b/d focus for the mixer controls?
There was an easier solution to this. Could have used endless encoders with LED rings around the knobs to so when you swap controls you don't have to worry about "soft takeover", would've looked cooler too.
Flip switches could be phono/line switches. Anyone curious as to what that flux mode is in one of the screen shots? There's a USB Hub, i'm not sure where but Phil Morse over at Digital DJ Tips said its in a screen cap somewhere.
There's no way it's more then $1000. I'm guessing $800. I'm basing this off the fact that the DJM T1 is now $1000 and an S4 is $800 - $1000. Feature wise the S4 is truly an all in one where as this is aimed at timecode users and lacks 4 channel fader/eq. I would love to see a send/return function for my RMX 1000.
No idea what the M means beside the FX.
Maybe the M stands for mixer, as in; the mixer has on board fx. Which would be handy if you can use it standalone. The Bass-o-matic one only uses the one knob.

On second thoughts, that sounds a bit bonkers. Not sure NI would do that.
Judging by the deck c fader hologram in the video it looks like it's being controlled by an encoder/knob.
I can't believe I didn't notice this but the FX section only have one on button, it's not like the X1 where there's 4 on buttons for the chained fx.
I have a DN-X1700 and I love it...It was either that or a Xone:92...I went with the Denon for the 2 FX engines and the MIDI mappability...
Not sure what I would do with this new Traktor controller. If it is the size (and weight) of a regular mixer, I doubt that I would want to lug it around. It is only 2 channels which may reduce the size, but it does look like there are extra buttons and knobs on the sides so that the size may not be all that small.
Now, a MIDI mixer (no analog) with built-in sound card to control Traktor, now that is something I can get down with.

anyone care to translate?
Google had a go:
Take a good analog mixer, put all the important controls for Traktor Pro 2.5 and you have the Kontrol Z2 mixer.
Main points of the Kontrol Z2:
Traktor Scratch certified two-channel mixer
A full-sized blender who must compete with the same high quality that the competitor offers.
Two additional channels for Traktor
There are 4 channels can be found on the mixer (A / B / C / D), wherein the latter two are suitable for Traktor and associated peripherals such as the Traktor Kontrol F1.
A USB hub
Allows all your Traktor gear on your computer / laptop connect only one USB cable.
Midi-control loops and Traktor's effects
Control and view your loops, as known from the Kontrol S4 (with LED display). The effects of Traktor Kontrol can obviously with the Z2 controlled.
Hot cues for each channel
Beside each channel on the mixer are four buttons available, which can be used as hot cues. It is also possible, in view of the plurality of assigned colors and the presence of a SHIFT-key, these keys to be used as a sample, such as well-known triggers of the Kontrol F1.
Separate filters
Among the EQs of the channels, the filters are to be found.
Traktor Library Browser
in the middle of the mixer is a button which allows the library to open Traktor and then scrolling down through your tracks.
The Traktor Kontrol Z2 will scratch DJs to really speak. The two-channel layout and quality Traktor and devices entail, will therefore very much in the limelight.
The combination with Kontrol F1 and Kontrol X1's is very easy to set up now there is a mixer that seamlessly integrate into this setup. The USB hub makes this easy by a jumble of wires to avoid.
dont think i see any benefit of this...
Although the design of the mixer makes complete sense, the extra knobs/buttons on the sides of the mixer are exactly what I don't like about the Rane 68, now NI has gone and done it. I wish that the mixer and "X1" controls were side by side, but again, it makes sense to have the controls next to the respective decks.
This product does look intriguing, a DJ mixer really completes the Traktor ecosystem. Although I'm not a fan design, maybe some real world use will change my mind.
so... are the faders magnetic or normal ones?
I am really most curious now about the FX. As others have pointed out, it looks like there are some new FX (Bass-o-Matic, laser sclicer)...also what is Flux Mode? The "M" next to the Bass-o-matic effect makes me concerned that it will only be available on the Mixer...but then again, it may have nothing to do with that...
Not sure if I am going to ever get this. I have a DN-X1700, Xone:K2, F1, & X1...so I don't really need another mixer at all and I have plenty of MIDI control available to me... I may go a different direction and get an RMX-1000 for dedicated FX...but for now I am working on a mapping for my K2 that will handle the more complex FX settings for me. If the new Traktor FX are good, I may avoid getting an RMX-1000 and just work with Traktor for all my FX.
I quite like it and I've been looking at getting a new mixer so this could be perfect. My only concern is that it will be made cheaply and built similar to the S4, which I wasn't too keen on.
So this seems to be right down my alley. I have been thinking of stepping up from my S2 to either SL1200s or SC3900s but would likely still stick with Traktor since I am quite familiar with it.
So this fits right into what I would need in the setup, a mixer, hopefully with the ability to swap out crossfaders, that can hook up a F1 or two. This is meant for people that want to stay in the Traktor line while going away from controllersm and getting that beautiful 1:1 matchup to software.
Nice mixer. But I'll wait for the four channel version.
looks cool... as long as there is no internal mixing it should be very cool
I mean its awesome its a stand-alone mixer from what I gather. But won't like more then half the unit be non usable unless you hook a computer up to it anyways? Or will all these functions like loops and effects be built in?
If thats the case, couldn't they just offer a bare bones one as well that isn't standalone for a cheaper price?
Looks like they will keep the fingerprint magnet design they used on the S4's mixer section.
Could it be "M" next to effects mean that wel see mixer effects back with traktor? Select Global FX Unit / Direct-mixer. I'd love that.
Im wondering the same. If NI is trying to bust into the scratch market, it better have a magnetic cross fader at least.
Ive pretty much concluded that this is a long over-due attempt to get NI into the scratch mixer scene, but is not meant to replace the S4. I predict a new S4 coming out, or a 4ch mixer similar to this Z2 (Z4?)
Regardless Im glad NI is doing mixers now, although Im not draining my bank account until I see something I can't live without. but I am interested to see the price point (im guessing $599) and the software update/new effects
I could be wrong, but I haven't seen anything about this. Anyone hazard a guess as to what the M means next to the new effects? I've got a funny feeling it could mean mixer effects - you only get access to these effects if you use the new mixer.
I've read that it is as tall as a regular mixer, but midi only. The extra space is for storing pineapple to put on your pizza.
Definitely an interesting development and I'm sure NI have a 4 ch waiting in the wings, it would make sense to do so, but I reckon it'll be some way off before it'll be standard club install.
Also just been chuckling to myself, still find it amusing that the advent of digital DJing; the ramp up in DJ products to market matches the traditional consumer electronics industry, yet Technics held court for a couple of decades with their TTs. Still it's all good fun. I'll stick with me 1210s and S4 for a bit longer I reckon.
Is no one curious as to why this mixer has no chain FX on buttons??
The M could actually stand for Master and maybe it's post fader fx :O.
Maybe we'll be able to create up to 26 groups of effects?
