Serato vs. Traktor Pro.

I am not saying that all older people are not tech savvy. A couple of the proffesors and doctors of IT subjects I know are in there 70's.

I go to them when I need information on things like artificial intelligence, SQL injection attacks, writing drivers. Some of these people have been working with computers before there was computers as we know them today.

Im just saying alot of older people just have not got the interest to learn and prefer a easier solution.

Im allways asking djs in my local area y they use what they use. Most people with serato say it because it just works and is more like how they used to work or they say its cuz i saw matey using it and he said it was good

Well to be honest, one of the reasons that I choose Traktor Pro was because most of the DJ's I know, who are around my age or a little older ARE Serato users. So I figured I'd go against the grain.

Having used basically every popular method of DJing, I still think that SSL vs. Traktor is simple.

If you want vinyl control and mix traditionally, SSL is simpler; takes fewer resources; gives you free software updates; and isn't that far behind except for slightly primitive effects and the sample player.

If you want to use Bridge…you probably should just use Ableton. I don't see what SSL adds unless you're scratching full tracks: Ableton is perfectly capable of playing full files.

If you want to use a controller or need tempo-sync'd sample decks but don't want to use Ableton…Traktor Pro 2 is the answer.

And if you want to use CDs to control any of this crap…think seriously about why you want to use that combination. I still can't see the point. Every time I see another DJ play, I think about picking up CDJs and ditching TPro. It adds a good bit, but the more I play with it, the more I find that I just don't care. Maybe sample decks will change that.

My god, for once I agree with you.

Doesnt explain why Traktor SCRATCH Pro is out selling SSL in all regions though does it.

The whole 'SSL is for hip hop and DVS and Traktor is for controllers and EDM' is load of hog wash that just doesnt bare up to the facts.

Its like the whole, SSL sells more in the US thing. It just is not true anymore.
It once was but, no longer. Those days are over.

Thing is, as soon as you say this, people run around like headless chickens saying "Fanboy" yadda yadda.
Got nothing to do with being a fanboy. Its just the way it is.

SSL is still mor widely used in clubs in the US cus its been around longer. Not rocket science.
Give it a few years for new generation of DJs to come through.

NIs marketing in the last 2 years has been incredible whilst Seratos has been next to non-existant other than the Bridge.


All serato need to do is up their game againb with the promotion and the battle would hot up but as it stands NI are trouncing serato in the media war and the guys on the Serato forum are pretty much all in agreement.

Some of the best rep that NI has at the moment is coming from the serato forum.

I don't buy into the Serato is more popular thing either, but I can understand the appeal if you want a simple replacement for trad vinyl. Interface is pretty clean and free updates etc.

i love traktor but i have this fondness of serato
i switched from serato SL1 to traktor scratch and so far I've never looked back

sometimes i miss the overlapping waveforms (so that you dont need to beatgrid tracks at all, just lock and load) but the extra features of traktor + the insanely awesome fx makes me stay with traktor - and the 2.0 update is looking KILLAAH

I went from Vinyl to Traktor Pro with MIDI to Traktor Scratch Pro to CDJs then to Serato.

Out of all those I like DJing with straight CD's and Serato the best, for the simple reason that they are the simplest and most reliable forms of DJing out there right now. I have been using SSL for over a year now and never had it crash on me.

TSP was cool when I used it at home but taking it to gigs was a bitch. Set up is overly complicated (i found the interface and its cabling system to be way too complex), and reliability sucked (I had it crash mid set on me a couple times, which was too much for me).

Setting up Serato is very simple, (especially since most clubs I spin at have a SSL box bolted down the booth already) so most of the time I just plug in my laptop and I am ready to go. Also love the SSL interface, much more simple and quick to set up. I just find Serato much more fun and enjoyable to use than TSP.

People make that argument that TSP has more features, and they are right. But I don't see the value in them. In other words I don't see how excessive cue point juggling and engaging three different effects at the same time on a song will make your set so much better and make people dance more in clubs. Sure all that stuff is fun to do but I think those features just annoy typical club goers more than anything who really just want to hear their favorite songs. Bottom line is I don't find it very practical in a real world setting.

So I think reliability and simplicity are the features that most DJ's want more than anything, and Serato has that in spades over any software out there right now, which is why I think it is more popular.

I also don't really see anyone using TSP. I don't see anyone using it in the clubs in Toronto and I only see a few big name DJ's using it. The majority of high profile DJ's use CDs still, if they are not using that they are using Serato or Ableton. That might change with TSP 2.0 but right now, I think it TSP is the least popular method of DJing out there.

All of this. As an aside, I am still surprised when I hear that TSP is outselling SSL in all markets, when I am one of about 3 people I know that use Traktor in any form, and I know of countless people in my area using SSL/Itch. and while i have seen serato/itch in countless clubs/bars, i dont think i have ever seen traktor. (not saying one is better-remember, i chose traktor over serato-just reporting what i see).
