He wasn't hating on controllers, per se. He was hating on what many people do when they don't have to spend time beat matching. Mostly, that turns out to be ruining a track with effects.

And I 100% agree with him (please look at my sig to see if I hate controllers).

It takes balls to stand there and groove out to a good track as opposed to constantly doing something. Learn that first…then maybe sorta kinda think about using effects to spice something up.

Definitely have to agree here. However anxious or nervous I might be, just gotta relax and rock the fuck out. Take a few minutes to enjoy the music, dare I say mingle for a minute or so... not compensate for a lack of mixing inspiration by twisting knobs and raping a perfectly good track. Be patient, and you'll get that next spark for your next transition or whatever, but don't expect to summon the stroke of genius through excessive button mashing. Stuff like that usually comes natural anyway, by that I mean during the flow of the mix. Don't force it.

I have figured out a way around this whole controllerist hating sync sexing thing.... Produce your own music and then when you play it its just a live performance.... If you play someone elses stuff its almost like doing a cover version ;)

if it bothers you what people think about the way you play then you should not be a dj or performer.it don't matter if you can beat match or use sync its about crowd control and having a good time.

Yeah ima shit producer... And touche mr macbook... Its all about the crowd and making sure they have fun and go on a journey... I bring my ipad with me to play games inbetween hitting sync and play :) yet i still get gigs most weeks :)

This is true but only once you know what you're doing.The advantage of learning to beatmatch when you start djing is that when you finally master it you've had so much practise that everything else falls into place.
Its a bit like "wax on..wax off" in the karate kid!!

Truth, people beatmatch but never actually introduce a track in right. Beatmatching is a portion of the mixing, Probably one of the most important, but smoothly putting a track in take more then just increasing the volume.

Djing is like learning to play any instrument,it takes practise and lots of it!Since sync came along alot of new dj's are getting cheated out of one of the most solid way of of learning.
Dont get me wrong I think its great and I use it but I still doesnt make everything magically work and thats the illusion that some people seem to have.

There are so many arguments and always will be ....NO to synths ... a real musician plays a piano! No to turntables a real musician uses instruments!!! No to cars ...whats wrong with horse and cart?.........and so on!

You're misunderstanding the point he was making. By working heard with really trivial bits of the mixing process you develop a greater understanding of your music than if you just glazed over the basics and started focusing on super clever effects usage straight away.
