I think it was a think that would sometimes happen with the second gen ones which got fixed. I searched the web a fair bit and the few references to wobbly tone arms were really old.
Still, I don't have any real knowledge or evidence.

The Audio Technica 1240 should be good then. It's pretty new.
I should think so. A friend of mine has them and had no such issues. He makes cash buying, repairing and selling Technics and Audio Technica 1240s are his favourite decks :)
