Novation Twitch....Who Wants One? :)

the slicer must be one of the main attractions to the unit tho - so a shame they didnt see fit to build in some firmware to do that in traktor as it must be possible with some cunning use of beatjumps etc.

i'm playing about with some code to create a slicer type thing in traktor and i can see 2 main different ways i'd like it to work:

* music playing loops round the region you have sliced and when disengaged the track goes back to where it would have been if you hadn't used the slicer at all (simple enough - keep track of how long the slicer has been enabled for and beatjump forwards at the end)

* the track just plays out from the point you disengage the slicer

* if slice '5' is playing and you press the slice '1' button the next slice to be played afterwards is slice '7' (i.e: as tho you hadn't pressed slice '1')

* after pressing slice '1' then slice '2' will always play next unless you press another slice

not sure which of those the twitch/itch does but i can see uses for all 4 combinations i think... never had an mpc so not sure which is more mpc-style

havent had much time to work on my midimasher the last few weeks but have a free weekend :D plus i did pickup a nice domain name for it... DJism.com

i've been doing research for a few months and also saving up money of course, and i think i'm gonna try and get the twitch. initially i wanted the traktor s4 but it was just too expensive... i'm a beginner that's been playing around with traktor and vdj a lot just to get accustomed. i thought about going really cheap and beginner with the numark mixtrack but it seems a lot of owners grew out of it quickly and looked to replace it after they got familiar with all the controls. i'm not looking to going into scratching, so i think this will be a good fit for me. will probably gonna get a launchpad in the very near future to do so clip launching.

ideal choice i reckon - and the launchpad is almost ideal for clip launching etc - esp due to it's price. i also like mapping traktor functions to it.

just rewatched the video review on digitaldjtips and remembered the loop roll function... i guess thats not possible in traktor or am i just being dumb? since in twitch the track plays on under the loop and goes back to where the track would have been if loop roll hadn't been enabled? nice feature anyway... beatphase monitor and a beatjump could be used in traktor ofc if a modifier could have any value and so count the number of beats you'd been looping for. tho i'm probably overcomplicating it maybe...

Loop roll can be done with the beatmasher on full wet. Not as simple as ITCH though.

ah... ok - thought/hoped i had missed something obvious. not as flexible tho? as in twitch you have 8 different lengths of loop roll lengths? i do like the beatmasher and beat slicer effects in traktor and have been using them mostly full wet - but still not 100% quite *how* they chop/mash the beats up... can sound cool tho ;)

i like the simplicity of the idea of the loop roll in the twitch anyway. i might have to make the twitch my first decent controller after buying all the small/cheap ones i am using atm :p

More flexible. You can also edit parameters other than the loop length.

Serato loop roll = dumbed down beatmasher with a cool visual effect on the waveform.

im not gonna lie i thought this was dumb at first but now as i watch all the videos about it...i kinda wanna get it! looks really sick

seems to be gaining the most popularity from people for a new controller in ages (ever?)... i think novation have put some great ideas into it and priced it at just the right point (ok... charging 100quid would be even better :p)

do you think it would be wiser to buy this over a setup that includes a cheap 100-200 controller and a midi fighter?
