there is defiantly an easier way to do the sides did you know that you can actually bend MDF really easily it could have saved you alot of weight... how are you planning on finishing it. Since its mdf if i were you, i would fill any seams and holes with a mdf wood filler and then get it automotive sprayed a cool colour and then high gloss clear coat... another thing you could have considered that is still an option is lower the center area a bit and drop in a sheet of plexiglass with cutouts for your mixers that way you dont damage the top areas where its just wood. theres a million things you could do with this set up...
If you want to get really fancy buy some muli-color led strips. cut 2 large rectangular holes in the sides of the legs. line the cut out holes with the led strips and wire them to a power plug. then make a lip on the inside of the rectangular cut outs and get 2 pieces of frosted acrylic. clear silicone the lip and insert the acrylic ... now your legs of the bench glow what ever colour you want and if you hook it up to an audio source it can pulse colours to the beat.
if you need a pic of my idea let me know
A few good ideas there, not too sure im keen on cutting out holes in the legs and putting in lights, wanna keep it really simple. havnt worked much on this over the holidays but im back at work now and will maybe get it sanded, filled and painted within the next few weeks.
any one no if you can sand the top surface of mdf. because where the legs meet the top there is an overhang and i need to sand it flush????
You can, but dust mask up, the dust can be carcinogenic
Ok. But when I sand it down ill be removing the smooth surface of the board and will be left with a fluffy mess which I got to paint?
Why not laminate it? Pick up some veneers and glue them on. It saves you sanding, you can get many different types of wood, and personally, I think dark stained wood looks better than dark painted. Veneer should be able to wrap those curved corners very well.
Prime, paint, flat back with fine glass paper, paint again, flat- repeat until smooth...
Or a thin smear of polyester (Car Body) filler?
Looking real nice mate :D
Looks great! Add dark wood veneer, and it's ready for lounge prime time.:D
