easy to do with midimasher sitting between your controller(s) and traktor. there's no "controller range" option afaik for type=fader in traktor. if it had that, like it does out "out" types then u would be able to do it just within traktor i presume. u can use midimasher to just pass all data between traktor and your controller unmodified and just add in extra midi messages if needed for stuff like this

edit: midimasher does require some coding skills tho - if only simple ones. this config is one i did the other day for someone to fix the lpd8 issue of turning pad led's off when u want them kept on... http://midimasher.djism.com/lua/config/lpd8_ledfix.lua but apart from that just routes midi between the lpd8 and vdj.

Yeah, Traktor makes this nice and easy to do with modifiers.

No you shouldn't need another program besides Traktor. Just set a modifier on the knob with the type "fader/knob" and mess with the rotary sensitivity until it smoothly scrolls the modifier value between 0-7, Then just set up your FX to load and turn on (and off) at the different modifier values. If you need more than the 8bit depth of just one modifier, simply create a "ratcheting modifier system" to give you 16-64bits with two modifiers.

interesting idea. just had a quick go and have it ranging between 0 and 7. *sometimes* it jumps to 5 when it's at 0, could be a bad pot on my lpd8 but it doesn't then jump back to 0. this is with accel at 0% and sensitivity at 24% for a normal 7bit midi pot.

mine is hitting a value of 3 at zero ish with these settings, not bang on, but so long as u don't mind the mid point +/- quite a bit it could def be used for some things. what would ofc be more of a pain is assigning params to 0-50% and 50-100% as you'd have to add one control for every modifier value you need.

as for creating a higher resolution using a cascading set of modifiers - that's really not a great idea - i suspect u just mentioned it because it was technically feasible even if not at all practical. for one thing since u can't add ranges as modifier conditions this would make u have to add a whole heap of extra controls.

this is totally untrue ofc... if they wanted to make it *easy* they would just have allowed controller ranges for a fader and also condition ranges - which would be rather neat and maybe they'll add to a future version.

i do like your idea for defining an action at 50% for a fader/pot that u can't otherwise do without the missing controller range.

once u move to using a sep app tho to do the routing between your controller and app(s) whether bomes or midimasher etc then the options u have for mapping really expand... and u can try out different ideas without spending a long time in traktors controller manager.

here's a simple example that connects an lpd8. adds a new message at 0% that is off otherwise, another at 50% and then a new fader that ranges from 0 to 127 in the lower 50% of the physical fader. a lot of extra functionality for not very much effort.

open the cue/beatgrid options below your deck, click on the cue u want to change and use the pulldown to the left of the trash icon. you'll see the options in there that u want. or do u want to midi map this? for that i think you'll want "add in > cue/loops > cue type"

then that's the midi control u want i think. i presume it acts on the 'active cue' the same way the gui does. so first select the cue (via your hotcue midi button or whatever) and then map some controls of "add in > cue/loops > cue type" with type=button, mode=direct for each type u want. or u could just have two that change thru each type or even map a fader.

nope - only one at a time... same goes for xtrememapping too - but there's more chance of them adding the feature in than NI imho

I wish wish wish we could modify maps in Excel or another streamlining software. How nice would that be...

it is a pain in the ass :p for some reason they locked the xml down with traktor pro - before that u could edit the xml file so just do search+replaces and stuff. if you're on mac tho u have to hope that xtrememapping adds that feature in sometime. apparently they had thought about it but figured it would be too dangerous as people might edit more than they had intended.

Hi guys. I have 2 NDX 800s (from numark, mixer also from there) and I want to map my M6 usb mixer but just won't work and I don't know what to do. I don't know how to map it so i can mix. The sound from the mixer soundcard can be heard, master also works but in traktor won't show the master fader going up or down. and if I move the bass mid or treble in traktor they won't move, they're not mapped. My players are working. I also have the LE version of traktor. Can you help me please? I don't know what to do, really :(

you can't create (or use) custom mappings in traktor LE as far as i know (tho i've never used it personally). traktor just comes i think with the setup wizard and ships with support for the controllers it came with. traktor pro is very cheap these days tho.

I found out. The problem is that my mixer (numark m6 usb) does not send midi information so that's why I can not use it.. Is there any method to use my players together with this mixer on some kind of mixing software? [the players are working perfectly on traktor but the mixer won't work on any controller i guess]

so long as your soundcard has two stereo outs then select "external mixing mode" in traktor, route each deck to the outs and wire them into channels A and B of your mixer. an Audio2 card should be enough for this (and cheap) if you don't have that many outputs atm. you didn't say what sound card you were using. or can the ndx 800's be used as soundcards?

there is just one soundcard in the mixer. I don't think I can use my ndx 800 as soundcards.

your mixer *is* your soundcard? then just select the mixer as your audio device and use traktor in external mixing mode. you dont need the internal volumes+eq in traktor if you have the external mixer. the website only says "USB computer connection for playing and recording with Mac or PC" but i presume if it's a 4 channel mixer it must show up as an audio device with 4 stereo outputs? then in external mixing mode u just select one for each deck. you wont see any controls changing in traktors mixer but u don't need them to as you're doing it in your own mixer. in the "Mixer" area of prefs u can disable "EQ + Fader" and also "Crossfader" which is how i have it setup as i do all that in ableton live in much the same way you'll be doing it in your mixer. it also gives more space for displaying the decks in traktor and i prefer it that way.

i asked recently the guys from numark and they said my mixer is not a midi controller and won't send any midi information so then, can your method still work? Because I really hope your method still works

yes - as this has nothing to do with midi - so long as when you select the mixer as your audio device it shows u have 8 output choices - two for each stereo pair input to the mixer

select external mixing in traktor + select the mixer as audio device and output routing + hide the mixer controls from the traktor display (since you won't be using them) + select headphone cue'ing from the controls on your mixer

then just use the levels + eq etc on the mixer itself - no need for any midi

I selected ext mixing. Even if it shows in traktor that the mixer is an audio device I can select just "speakers left and speakers right" .. and when I had the mixtrack pro controller I could select mixtrack pro speakears 0, 1, 2 and 3. so now I don't really know if it the mixer really has a built in soundcard. That still it is not the real major problem because I selected external mixer and I "played" with the crossfaders, bass, treble and so on and it does not work.

sounds like mixer *is* a soundcard but only has one stereo pair, i.e: u can't route audio into each of the inputs separately. i guess it's designed to be used more as an old school analog mixer and the usb connection is an after thought just so u can use it as a 2 channel soundcard if needed.

since your mixtrack pro has 4 audio channels you can select those for decks A+B and connect those to the analog input of your mixer. i don't know if the mixtrack has 4 sets of phono outputs or whether you'll have to go from a mini jack from the headphone output for one pair - and how much that may affect audio quality or not. worth a shot tho.

so then you wouldn't be using any usb connection for your mixer at all

I tried with the mixtrack pro also. It just won't work. I'll have to mix without a laptop (I hate not to see all the tracks at once because I got used to mix with the controller.. but that's the life) Though, thanks a lot for trying to help me. I appreciate a lot!

what isn't working? you wired (using physical cables) the main and headphone outputs from your mixtrack to your mixer? that will get deck A+B into the two channels on your mixer. your mixer has 4 sets of audio stereo inputs i guess?

unless i'm missing something important about your mixer this should work...

a quick google shows that the mixtrack has two pairs of phono outputs and the M6 has plenty of phono inputs. it should work fine. just make sure you have selected the "external mixing mode" in traktor. then all you're doing is sending deck A out to one channel on the M6 and deck B to the other channel.

the internal mixer controls wont work in traktor ofc - but u dont need them to as you have an external mixer. internal mixing is only for people like me who don't have an external mixer. i'd opt for a real mixer if i could any day ;)

Hey guys and girls!
So im a total mapping noob and I was wondering if you guys could give me a little advice or a screen shot or two of how I can map some LED functions for mine twitch.. For example, in the traktor mapping for Twitch you can use the 8 pads to set a loop and control the values of that loop.. Silly thing is no leds light up on the pads you have selected so unless you keep a eye to your screen its easy to forget what value loop you have and hit a wrong button.. I want to be able to change some of the LEDS functions..
If this is kind of too much trouble to explain to a person like me with basically 0 experience its no prob.. But if any one has some advice or links to tutorials or screen shoots it would be greatly appreciated!

i think you'll first need to add some IN's for a free modifier, like:

add in > modifier1 > type=button, mode=direct, value=0 assigned to the button u set one loop length with
add in > modifier1 > type=button, mode=direct, value=1 assigned to the button u set the next loop length with
add in > modifier1 > type=button, mode=direct, value=2 etc...

then u can add an OUT back to the same pads:

add out > Cues Loops > Loop Active, modifier cond m1=0 assigned to the first button
add out > Cues Loops > Loop Active, modifier cond m1=1 assigned to the 2nd button
add out > Cues Loops > Loop Active, modifier cond m1=2 assigned to the 3rd button

i'm sure i remember it being more fiddly than that, but i think thats the jist of it.

so modifier1 is storing the current loop length and you'll only get the led output to a given pad if the loop is active and that loop length is currently set

I made a HAPPY discovery a few nights ago.

Might not be new to anyone else, but was to me!

I have 2 rigs really. 1 x APC80 (Internal mixing - 4 decks) and 1 x TT's and Ext Mixer. (2 decks)

So I have been trying to figure out a way where I can use the APC80 for 2 internal decks and the TT's and mixer for the other 2 decks (Scratch).

So I left Traktor on Ext Mixing and plugged my APC in etc. I found that I can use 2 of the decks and the internal EQ's (using the APC) and also have 2 decks routed to the Mixer.

Given, the internal decks are also being routed out via the mixer on Channel 1 and 2, so its EQ's have an effect too obviously.

This is not for 4 deck mixing, but more for a hybrid type setup. If I want Timecode its available...if I want to play internally on my APC...its available. Can also control the FX and Cue Points now for the Timecode decks.

Basically eases my pain of having to plug in the one rig or the other.

Now its all running at once.

LED Mapping Question

Im starting to get a hang of mapping LED outputs to my APC 40, but one problem I am having is that I can't get the lights to stay on once Ive actually pushed the buttons. For example, I mapped two rows of buttons to light up red and green when in modifier state 0, and orange when in modifier state 1.

However, in both situations the LED will turn off once I have pushed the button. Then I have to switch modifier states to get to get them to turn back on.

Im having the same problem with my hotcues. I have the LEDs red when there is no hotcue, but when I press the button to store a hotcue it will light green while I hold it, but when I release it, the LED will turn off.

Can any one help me with this? I do gigs in poorly lit places, and it would be awesome to have my LEDs functioning properly.

Add an inverted send Monitor state command for each of the affected buttons, so they light up when you release them.

hey guys. i'm working on an emergency mapping for when my vci fails on my midifighter pro so that i can do 2 deck mixing with just 1 fighter. and i was wondering something. how would one go about creating a supereq knob ? what i basically want is from the leftmost point to the middle i want the lows to go from zero to normal. then from midpoint all the way to the right i want the mids and high to go from normal to zero. would this be possible on a pro's knob ? considering the wealth of midi signals it sends ? and if yes how exactly would 1 go about doing it ? i am quite stumped right now.

Don't you have to set the button map to 'hold'? Its probably on toggle now.

Just off the top of my head. Don't have access to my laptop at the moment.

today I got my VCI 400! YAAAAY!! So it´s time for me two start my second bigger mapping experiment after my DJIE2/Launchpad mapping. I want to start mapping now my VCI and have a question concerning the layout of my modifiers. I am extremely short of modifiers, missing at least 1 modifier atm and did not even think about Remix decks.. :( I am sure someone finds a way out. :)

First of all here comes a link to the VCI 400 deck, so that you know which buttons I want to map.

Some further explanation: Modifier 1+2 I switch the Jog-mode between pitchbend and search. Mod 3+4 I need to switch the decks, Mod 5+6 are the left FX section and the right FX section, 7+8 control the mode of the 8 buttons (Hotcue and 3x8 different presets of FX).

So far, I am missing a mod for a shift function. :( The only solution I got in mind now is to split the mapping in two devices. One device for the left side, one for the right side. But I fear this might cause in latency issues if its two many devices sometimes? I´m prettty sure I´ll connect a F1 soon.

So maybe there is another way.

my best bet would be to do exactly what you said and split the mapping into two or more devices, as then you get a brand new shiny set of 8 modifiers for each device. it won't make any difference to latency, even the midifighter 4banks mapping is split into 4, one per bank, and that has a heap of controls in each.

it might be less work to just split out the effects section into it's own device? you just need to ensure ofc that all buttons/faders that depend on the modifiers you are moving into a separate device are also in that device.

i can't see any other clean way of doing it. you could try to combine modifiers where you are only using values of 0 and 1, but then you'd end up duplicating the mappings that depend on them since you can't say in traktor "modifier1 is 1 *or* modifier1 is 3"

i would go with the option of splitting into multiple devices if i were you ;)

The easiest way would probably be to use just one modifier for the jogs. Set it up with four "positions" (m1=1-4) that correspond to the four different ways that the jogs can be set up. This would need a couple "if this than that" type of mod conditions, but should be pretty simple in function.
Zestoi is correct here about splitting, it is probably the best way to do this. But if you don't want to split, just set it up like I was saying.

yep, combining modifiers for the jogs should work well, as i doubt he has many controls mapped to them.

if there's "jog fx" stuff mapped to them then there would be a lot of controls to dupe ofc, but if only scratch+pitchbend then it's probably easier to just dupe those few controls ;)

I am at beginning of going into the mapping stuff and at the moment i have a lil' problem.
I have an akai mpd18 and want to do hotcues for the sample decks.
My mapping for a hotcue:
Control: Play Primary | I/O: In| Assigment: Sample Deck 3 Slot 1| Mode: Trigger (also tried: Hold)
also Retrigger Play | In| Sample Deck 3 Slot 1| Hold

Now the problem:
I'm using one-shot samples but when the sample is a lil' bit longer (like the 808 Kick 1 or 808 Clap) and I'm hitting the button very fast the secound hit only resets the sample.
What I want is that every time I hit the sample it is played compledly and not like now: first hit -> play, secound hit -> reset, third hit -> play and so on ...
