Why am I remembering the "early" dual stereo routines using both the 30 pin and headphone ports then? IIRC the actual 30 pin standard terminal includes a DAC, as part of Apple's initial plan for the connector, which is separate, but I guess linked through firm/hardware from the actual headphone DAC. It's probably similar to the DACs on the master bus on most digital mixers if they're not independent. DJMs have separate DACs for each master output, but they're all outputting the same signal.
Does multi-route audio mean the 30pin can be used directly as an independant audio out, or is it only for outputting a digital signal to an external sound card?
It's the latter.
This looks like what I was waiting for, but I can't understand why this took so long to make it.
If you think from the digital dj's perscpective, Z1 gives us a new way of flexibility, things comes in smaller and smaller sizes and I think that is really interesting. I can imagine how the future of mxing will look like (stuff being used). So as I think of buying Z1 and X1 and having a setup X1+Z1+X1.
I got one question, I never had a soundcard and I will need to connect XLR cables, so guessing audio interface or an audiocard with XLR inputs will be needed? Cheers
Just buy 2 of these.

Get a DI box if you need XLR outputs.
Thanks for help. Is there a big difference if I use XLR plugs to RCA in quality? I guess there is none with DI box.
What are you connecting to that requires XLR connections? XLR cables can carry a balanced signal which is more suitable for long cable runs e.g. in a PA setup.
Also worth remembering is that some DI boxes will convert the unbalanced line-level signal into a balanced mic-level signal, which may not be suitable for your specific application. Something like this: http://www.visiosound.co.uk/stage-st...isting+ads#355 offers the option to control the conversion.
This won't balance your outputs though, you'll need a DI box for that. If the amp is under the booth, it probably won't be a problem using those adapters, although you may have to increase the gain on the amp. If it's upstairs in the office, you'll want to get a DI box to avoid interference with the long cable runs.
XLR to RCA is anything but elegant..
So after reading this whole thread this is my conclusion. Z1 is dope if you're running TDJ or wanna make your 2deck modular midi setup more compact. But I feel like everyone has forgotten about the DJM900NXS in all of this talk. Its traktor certified, so bam you can do your internal mixing if you wanted to go that route. Its fully midi mappable so it can be used for way more purposes a la datsik and deadmou5 in ableton. You can go dvs or full cdj setup or modular also. Has built in top shelf sound card. Yeah I dig it, its expensive blah blah blah, but with dj gear anyone will tell you the same you pay for what you get. My set up currently makes use of a djx700... oh how I hate the thi g and relish when I can use a clubs djm. But once again that's just my take. I use 4 channels so I can't find a use for it. And if you use for channels and use a macbook your fucked cuz of the limited usb ports. But yeah you can by a hub and get two of em and have cables all over the place and have a drunk bitch rip out your shit at anytime cuz its "ideal for house parties" or whatever... but if your a noob looking to pick up mixing as a hobbie fuck it put your 200 duckets down and see if you wanna persue this further. Yeahh that was a long response hahaha
This is all good and all, but unless your big enough to demand what gear will be at the venue, your going to have to lug your own with you. Most places are still rocking the DJM800, around here anyways, unless it's a big show and they are bring out the good stuff for the big act and your lucky enough to be able to use it. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to walk around a club/bar/rave with $1,800 mixer in my hands / bag.
Most places here are running DJM600s, usually battered and broken ones lol. My Wednesday residency had an Xone:42 the other day which was quite nice but I'm not a fan of the Cue buttons (can't just tap them easily like other mixers), but usually you'll be having to deal with a DJM600 which is REALLY not fun.
Whatever gear the venue has though, I'd much rather work completely off my own setup and just feed into a single channel on the house mixer and use that for tweaking the base EQ level. For me, the Z1 will be perfect.
so who plans to get a Z1 tomorrow?
or already preorder 1...
I already saw some at my local guitar center.
Don't really see any purpose for it though so I won't be ordering.
I preordered here on djtt.
Honestly I see this being perfect with an ipad mini, and some headphones gone are the times needing to drag around a 1000$ laptop. Lets just hope they make an update for the z2/traktor DJ or even better with DVS support!
Indeed. :)
We'd also like in-depth interviews with the punters, a printed transcript and DNA samples from every individual within a 3 mile radius.
Well unfortunately, it didn't happen.
I was told that I'd be getting a LOT of requests so I had to ditch the iPad and take the MBP.
After an hour of trying to fix up a stand for the Z1 & X1 (the booth is high so I need them on an angle) I gave up and took the S4.
I'm having a little stand made on wednesday so next week will definitely be Z1 & X1 or F1.
This looks interesting....

LOL, nice one.
Can anyone tell me the power specifications on the wall adapter?
I'm looking at the z1 / ipad combination as a way throw dj sets while camping, which usually means no power sockets... so I'm looking for portable battery packs / AC adapters as a way to power the z1/ipad as it needs to be plugged in.
Can someone tell me the power draw of the adapter? Size, etc? I'm thinking something like this would work if the z1 power socket will fit and is within power specs. Can't find them on NI's site.
Thanks!
Anyone here who got the Z1 running on Snow Leopard?
Anyone daisy chained these things to make a 4 channel mixer yet? Why no 1/4" headphone socket? :(
So you're going to get one for the reason they designed it in the first place then.
You missed the point. By a lot. Which is ironic considering you would get one based on reasoning that supports the point.
Not every piece of gear is destined, nor designed for Avicci at the club bruh. This is a piece of hardware that's targeted at their iOS app, for the sole purpose of convenience, not to replace Pio decks.
