Why? Famous DJ's use CDJ vs. Timecode?

I cant believe that this hasnt been brought up yet.. Some of them may take advantage of the sync benefits of a dvs system with the CDJS. I've seen a couple of "big names" use CDs, yet have the pitch identical on each deck the whole set. If one moved, they moved the other when they put in the next disc. Its not all that difficult to have their music pre set to a specific BPM. Now its easy to mix with 4 cdjs, as well as use cue points. the only things they are missing is the per deck effects, which is really overkill for the most part.

I love my traktor/4D setup, but i do miss actually beat matching from time to time.

I like the "walking on a tightrope" feeling while keeping tracks in sync. There is more of a gratification when you synced the tracks. And even tho i sometimes go a few months or more without using my 1200s or cdjs, i find that gridding tunes in traktor keeps the ear keen for beatmatching. I NEVER have an issue beatmatching when i walk up to a set of decks.

There is more than one way to skin a cat...That is the bottom line.. fullstop

Another point is that a lot of the big names are spinning sets of their own tunes, and don't need to bring anything more than a couple cds. You don't need a huge library if you already know what you will be playing.

A lot of the "big name" Djs that i have seen, spin progressive house, house, electro and techno

Those types of genres you dont hear a lot of beat mashing etc..

So they prob dont have the need for say a vci 100 or another controller

PS why change whats working for you?

I agree that Guetta is a bit of a dork, can someone please tell me why in the video for "Memories" he is playing on some Numark CDJ's with a Numark mixer, its embarassing tbh. As if Guetta would ever seriously play on Numark gear, he probably has the biggest and most diva rider out of any DJ ever.

The reason is most of them have been DJ'ing for years and made it big just using CDJ's so they think to themselves whats the point of changing now. We are in the transition phase tho, people are becoming more interested in the newer gear now that its more stable.

a laptop will NEVER ever stop working for no reason, its impossible. laptop is not a thinking being, it cant decide to stop working, its just a platform that executes code written by humans. PCs dont make mistakes, they have no capacity for it.

but yeah, even though i know my laptop is perfectly safe to run for extended periods of time and without any issues, if i was asked which in my opinion is more stable CDJ or my lappy, id have to answer CDJs. at this point its pretty much a perfected technology that is perfectly suited for what it needs to do. while with laptops, well, ive never heard of a laptop specifically made for DJing. so were using multiple technologies that were not necessarily made to be combined in this fashion, and thats why hiccups happen.

but i think the major reason for big names using CDJs instead of midi is simple convenience. all they have to bring with them is headphones and a pack of cds, with the newest CDJs they dont even need to bring cds anymore(!) they can just bring a usb stick with tunes on it. they have no reason to complicate their own lives by lugging around controllers/laptops/sound interface/etc, might as well travel light, itll save you time at the airports thats for sure.

All the same carrying a laptop and a S4 is not really that much to be carrying around with you.
