Ok, I spin electro, top 40, and dubstep mostly. I write and produce dubstep and hate most people's idea of what "dubstep" is... That's the real disconnect I think. The Drunk chick thinks "Skrillex - Scary Monsters" is the only f***ing dubstep song that has ever been made and doesn't know the name of the song or artist... so she just asks for DUBSTEP thinking that Skrillex is what she will hear...
The other thing that people associate dubstep with is the talky bass thing now (thanks skrillex) so when I get the obligatory dubstep request in the middle of the top 40 night I find that playing something like Rock n' Roll by skrillex really grooves (the bpm is right to mix in top 40 or electro) and people think they just got some dubstep... idiots. (they think I'm the only dj that gets dubstep... The last dj they asked to play dubstep just played some crappy slow music - scuba or burial... makes me die inside a little bit but $20 is $20 I guess)
The main thing that annoys me though is drunk people dancing next to the booth with a drink in hand... i really don't need your drunk flailing a$$ giving me and my expensive equipment a Heineken shower!
