NI has been pretty adamant about not reinstating the native mix recorder. It was essentially one mega-honking macro recorder, and I think the overhead and code bloat were a bit much to them. I liked it a lot even though I hardly ever used any of its editing functions, but I can live without it.
I'm not sure why a recorder like that would be so bloated - it's main job is quite passive. Maybe the problem was in the way it "played back." I didn't use it so I don't know how it really worked, but it seems that something along these lines is a good idea for future Traktor development and I hope it is still on NI's agenda. This is one area where I thought Serato's "bridge" had the right idea -- actually it shouldn't be too hard for NI to do something similar if they wanted to go that route; particularly given that Ableton is using an open XML format. So exporting to an Ableton file is not out of the question in the future (though it might be out of the question "politically".. I wonder).
A couple of years ago when I was still on the NI forums they were pretty adamant they weren't gonna do it. I think so few people actually used it that they didn't want to weight development on it, especially given the fact that they've pretty much rebuilt the engine a couple of times now. It's a shame but not a killer, to me. PLENTY of other gripes besides this one. :)

The whole Kontrol S4 thing is quite a big undertaking for NI. I think once the dust has settled and people have got used to the KS4 then maybe the next thing might be Traktor / Maschine integration.
This is just speculation from me though. It would seem the natural step dont you think..?
Seems to me that once they have Traktor Pro S4 out, Kontrol S4, the DVS plugin and Maschine is already there the next thing is to get the whole lot playing nice.
What i really dont know is if Traktor and Maschine will go down the Bridge route. Running Maschine in Traktor seems like a great idea. I just dont know if NI are up for it. They seem to shy away from cross-contamination but, they have released Traktors FX as a pack so .... who knows.
Your right Karlos, it dose seem like it would be a natural move for them. Hopefully it is just a matter of time, I think it would make a killer combo!! I cant't wait for the s4 im going though music withdrawal here!!
NI do boast about the fact that they have such a low bug/crash rate. I guess they could be shying away because there is fear of instability?
