Simple answer then, I'm in the "Not screwed without my laptop camp".
Reckon my laptop would be screwed without me though:D
Kinda like you rather be poor than rich? Kind of a romantic/nostalgic argument to a obvious productivity issue. Like eating cereal with water since there is no milk, only that you choose not to use milk... Just like I can say, "this moment is perfect for X track I have right here. Thank God I didnt came with just a bunch of vinyl." aaaaand your back will be thankful.
I even saw an ad about the kindle and the way some people get enjoyment from folding a page... well, that is just weird. aaaaaand some trees will thank you.
and I almost forgot about the laptop debacle, turned into "I can playz w/o sync. I am so cool like old school" thingy:

or you spend about half the time searching through your library looking at ten different remixes of the same song because you are totally overloaded with tracks. I mean those are silly comparisons. Its about preparation. Some people think preparation is having every damn track on earth, while others say well they are going to hear the set I am going to make for them. I'm a Dj, im not spotify.
So his workflow is different then yours, that means its wrong? Some people (me included) only put like a 100 or so tracks on their laptop when they go to a gig. I don't want 20000000 tracks to go through when i'm trying to read the crowd, and pick the next track. I've found scaling things down a bit actually translates to a better mix for me...
Your about as snobbish as most vinyl purists, saying CDJ's and TT's are obsolete. You been in a dj booth lately? The OP was referring to redundancy, like wtf are some of his friends gonna do if and when there laptop crashes or HDD's take a dump. Shit fails, period. DJ spills a beer on a cdj, turntable can't hold the pitch, your playing a 120 degree warehouse party and your HDD takes a shit. So your so beyond so called obsolete gear that you don't prepare for the worst? That's just asinine to me. Explain that to your audience or club owner/promoter when shit breaks down or your laptop crashes and you don't have a backup because your above that and they're pissed cuz the music stopped. I can guarantee you won't be asked to play again.Quote:
I will not invest money and waste time on a rapidly going obsoleet medium to please some snob DJ or have "street cred". Im way above that mindset. You can play on vinyl and CDJ's? Well good for you. It's like milking your own milk and growing your own Frosted Flakes instead of getting them from the store.
Old school, New school....who gives a shit. Just throw a good show, thats all anyone cares about. So you use a laptop, good for you. I use my laptop, controllers, vinyl, cdj's, and DVS. Why? Cuz its fun to use different media and its reassuring to me when i play a gig, that i'll be prepared and give the audience the best show i can.
Screwed with out one? No. Would be a night of classics tho =)
I learned on CDJ's And tried vinyl ... However i just cannot do with out my Mac Book Pro!!!!
Plus the convenience of all your music organized with the option to type (search) is quite appealing ... I dont know about music box or the cdj 2000 but i know pioneer is trying to eliminate the need of a lap top .. I personally like having the Waveform in front of my face when im doing build ups and effects to know right when to cut it out..until pioneer makes the screens on there cdjs to include waveforms im stuck on my MBPro!!! I have DJ friends that just show up to gigs with there head phones and like 2 sd cards or usbs drives and just plug directly into the 2000's (Which is the only appealing part to me) But to each his own!
