ok so im looking at getting 2 kontrol x1's and a ddm4000 for 4 deck mixing at home (plan to add mashine later).
which soundcard will i need to cover this?

The maschine plugs into USB port of laptop, just like the X1 (two times) and the audio 8. Then the audio 8 cables (audio cables, output) go into the mixer (4 channel input).. voìla
im thinking of getting this setup 2 you could use the ddm4000 full midi so plug it in via usb until you have enough money for a soundcard. Thats what im thinking of doing anyways
yeah see the only way ive seen this setup is by using 2 laptops, 1 for mashine and 1 for traktor, but i went to a clinic yesterday with chris liebing (who was friggin amazing last night i might add) and drumcell swore up and down that you can run 4 decks into an external mixer with mashine on 1 laptop.Quote:

Its usb so it can plug into the computer then the SOFTWARE can be routed through to traktor. Big fancy DJ's use 2 labtops because there big fancy DJ's

The two ports on the back of the maschine are MIDI ports not mic or something like i think you thought they where it is a MIDI controller you could map it to traktors controls or download one via a TSI im not sure what you intend on using it for maybe like booka shade or richie hawtin or just as a MIDI controller to control single drop samples or effects (which you wouldnt need with the X1's) or if you intend to use it in conjunction with the groovebox software do some research it might be not be worth getting the maschine it is 800 dollars or close to you could get something that does the same things but a cheaper priceQuote:

UNLESS - you're planning on having a 4-Deck Traktor set-up, and an additional "deck" (total 5 decks) for playing drum parts/synth parts seperately over the top of your 4 decks.
I'd advise against that. You'll spend more time trouble shooting than you will DJ'ing/performing. ALSO - running Traktor AND the Maschine software on one computer is gonna put a LOT of strain on your system. You'll suffer with latency and glitches (the BAD kind of glitches!)
My suggestion would be a set-up like this:
1) 2 X1's - each controlleing one deck in Tractor
2) An MPD 26/32 controlling a further 2 decks in Traktor
That way - you'll get your 4-deck mixing set-up, and a nice pad controller for what-ever you were gonna use the Maschine for. You can use an MPD for beat production using a different peice of software (Ableton Live?) and then play the produced parts in a deck in Traktor when you are DJ'ing.

Why don't you use a Firewire interface? Search the blog and you will see a lot of posts about firewire x usb 2.0... I can't see a disvantage by using Firewire...
You will save one USB by using it and you can have the advantage of using two headphones for dual DJ cueing.
I can point you to this interface, but I don't have one, I just wish it badly :)

the richie hawtin "method' to work flawlessly i think maschine in his setup works with the maschine software? requires two labtops and two soundcards to work flawlessly is that really necessary for your setup?

now i just need to figure out what mixer. i was leaning toward that ddm but now that i have a better understanding how its filter works i might not go that route.
god why does the xone 92 need to be so friggin expensive? all i need is a 5 channel mixer with a filter setup the same way the xone works on like half the budget.
i guess since im asking for the impossible, if anyone can hook me up with jewel staite i would appreciate that as well.
sorry i still dont understand why 5 channel? and you can use the ddm 4000 as a MIDI controller thus being able to choose from the 4 filters inside of traktor which include a xoney filter. If your thinking that you can route maschine through a mixer you don't you route the midi sync from traktor into maschine software and then use the controller to play samples and beats etc then that comes out of the output so in the software in the "output" setting you would choose your soundcard also if you were using a ddm 4000 as a midi controller im not to sure on this but it could control parameters within the maschine software or ableton or most of those could probably be on controlled on the maschine controller

drumcell was off the fucking hook. lol he made fun of me for jocking his set so hard lol.
chris was using 2 xone 1d's with an xone 92, a midi faderfox, and maschine. drumcell was using 2 kontrol x1's, maschine, and an xone 92.
liebing was amazing, but honestly, drumcell's set went off a little harder IMO
ahh nice im still trying to decide over the x1's or the 1d's i think im going to go the x1's for portability and because the money i save i can get some new cans :) its a nice setup be sure to post some pics/vids of the setup once you've finished it
what sold me on the x1's were 2 things a) drumcells use of them and b) the fact that during the traktor clinic he hosted for NI, mid set, unplugged his controller, plugged it back in. it booted, cycled, and traktor just set it back up. no mapping, no bullshit to mess with. it just "worked".
i like the fact i can plug it back in mid set :P but ill probobly change the mapping its nice they include a blank template
yeah so at this point i think the ddm is going to be the best bet for the cheapest way to have something "similar" to the functionality of a 92 for about 1/3rd the money.
