Yeh I've been through that and it's a mixed bag, really after some proper jump up big drops stuff?
Doctor P - Big Boss!
just check the beatport top 10
Or the hype charts... http://www.trackitdown.net/search/keyword?q=hype+chart
just did a mix recently with The Bad Touch (Prime remix) and i'm really digging it. kinda cheesy, but brings back some great memories, and the ladies love it haha
how can dubstep have a 'jump up' sub style? confused...
Look into Drumstep as well. There's a couple tunes that are really quite nasty that fit into that bill.
I'd look up Chronos Records, the new Liquid Stranger EP... and just general digging I guess. I spend a lot of time listening to music I'd never play (or want to hear played) live. But that's part of the fun of finding those gems.
I dunno... maybe just as DNB can have a jump up sub genre....?
Just for the sake of argument:
'Deep' Dubstep: Minimal sine wave sub bass, delay and echo, influenced by 'dub' reggae and sparse, almost - minimal 2-step beats.
'Jump-Up' Dubstep: 'Ravey' square wave, multi-layered synths, bit-crushed and formant filtered. Over four to the floor kick drum and massive compressed to shit snares on 3rd beat. Trancey stabs etc.
Simple :)
Circus and Chronos records put out some of the best.
if your on facebook you should check out a page called UKF dubstep they always have huge heavy hitters on there and they are mostly commercial tunes and they aren't just all tech step. check it out.
