Curious to see how many people own a soldering iron and know how to use it.
no, but my pops has one and i have used it before. My pops is like Wally from Grand Torino, he a grip a tools, so if i need something I just go over.
Not anymore because my flat is tiny and unventilated.
But i use one atleast 2-3 times a week at university for audio electronics.
One at home , one at work, one in my mobile bag too!
Yes, I use it about every other week to monthly. I wish there was range between 1 mod and straight bleeding Solder and having wires for veins. I would say I am familiar with my soldering iron and know how to use it to a basic extent
ive never used or owned one. but i think if i were to use one i would be able to.
I have two.
i have a desoldering iron but not an actual soldering one. I use a 50w wood burnisher with a soldering tip.
Once upon a time, I was a Commodore Amiga technician. probably 70 percent of everything I did back then required a soldering iron.
I wish i had a GOOD iron though. Although to be fair, the need for it in my life has deminished substancially over the years.
Hellz yeh. ipod/mobo fixit man overhurr
Whats the best kinda soldering tool for midi controllers? The pen style one?
also got one of those sweet spring loaded sucker things that picks up all the solder. I actually find it pretty relaxing which is weird as I burnt the shit out of my hand as a kid on a soldering iron.
sweet story
sure do and will keep using lead solder until it is no longer on the shelves...
I haven't really modded much, but it still comes in handy :)

I'm currently gathering information and materials to put together a basic MIDI controller for running loops through decks C & D in Traktor Pro... so I'll be buying a soldering iron soon and that will be my first time using one.
As I intend to photo-document the entire process, you folks will get to see the horrible scars I'll gain from the experience. Stay tuned!

I've got 2; a cheap radio shack pencil, and my Weller station.
Love the Weller, but the radio shack one gets more use because it's convenient.
I don't own one but have access to one. I used to use it every so often before losing my sight.
Still stay at my dads, never used it as a mod, but fixed laptop chargers etc with it.
My old man has one. I know how to use it and I have used it before.
If there was some kind of crazy life or death situation that depended on my soldering ability, I probably would be a little nervous though. Lol.
Secondary question.
How many of us are/were computer tech's at our day jobs?
+1
But i rarely ever use an iron at work. When i see blown caps, that shit gets scrapped; unless its practically brand-new.
does it count if its attached to a vaporizer? LOL
... i also do have one in my garage with my tools.
Yeah I love soldering. How many here solder SMTs?
Yes - I use it to draw patterns on my toast in the morning.
Really should get one...have plenty at work and my gf's dad has a jam packed garage for all that stuff but I've been using one every other week so maybe its time....but damn Im broke.
i got none, but my dad and grandpa got one. the need of using one is always a good reason to visit either one of them :D
I own one but my wife won't let me use it in the house.
I've got 2
1 for soldering and the other for melting glue sticks  My glue gun blew up the other week.
i kick ass at burning holes in sponges and making them little solder balls :D
My soldering irons and rework station have paid for themselves many times over with all the cable shenanigans, headphone cable trimming/replacing, and rrod & ylod fixes I've done now.
i loved my amiga 500.... best thing in the world. all my mates had nes and genesis/master system.. i had every game before they did, thanks BBS :D
on another note, got about 4 soldering irons... hardly used them much in the last 10 years, but i know my way around them.
