i was just thinking about that yesterday! :)
My 3 favorites:
M audio keyrig 25 (about 100 euro):

M audio oxygen 25 (about 100 euro):

M audio axiom 25 (about 170 euro):

All good choices.
I went with the Oxygen 49 because it had more knobs and faders, and I wasn't worried about getting the smallest size. I use it as an addition to the Traktor S4 and even with 49 keys, 9 faders, 8 knobs, and 15 buttons; I still have alot of them double and triple mapped.
So, it depends on how you plan to use it and how you want to map it on what would be best for you. If you want to use it as your only controller and aren't sure about mapping, then the Oxygen 8 would be a good choice because you can download a TSI for it here.
Well, in case of midi keyboards, bigger is better.
But also he mentioned price and portability and akai MPK mini.
Also, i don't think that mpk mini is good product. Its just too simple...
I've always been a fan of novation's midi keyboards
I have the mpk mini and i love it, just need to replace the knobs because they suck.
I have the MPK25 and I love it. Buttons, knobs, keys, and some (shitty) pads. I got over the pads since I have a MPD.
MPK Mini is awesome. If your using a 25 you won't be doing anything fancy anyways.
Otherwise I'd get something in the higher range, like a novation Sl MKII or Nocturn.
Big fan of the Axiom:

The Oxygen is good, but it doesn't feel extraordinary.
I couldn't decide on bumping an old thread or making a new one so I decided to just post here.
I'm looking to buy a midi keyboard for home production and I'm looking for something $200 or less, I've narrowed it down to the Oxygen 49 or the Axiom 25 which do you guys recommend?
Without fader and knobs, Alesis Q25 and 49 are perfect and simple, good keybed with aftertouch. They also have Midi and not only USB.
I just bought an alesis q25 which so far seems great for such a low price.
However if i had extra money i would have bought the axiom 45.
Looks great.
MOMMY I WANT ONE!

God damnit, i'm stuck deciding now whether I should pick up a case for my S4, or one of these. :o|
Oh god haha theyre so horrible. Every keyboard I tried from M-Audio's range at Long and McQuade felt SO BAD. If you learned to play years ago the feel will still be in your fingers, and they will cry at the thought of playing one ever again after you first try it lol.
Novation's keys are excellent tho. And while I can't speak from experience, I hear that Akai makes a very nicely weighted keybed.
Then again, I'm huge on key quality. Apart from that, I've heard the Axiom series are decent.
P.S. I wrote this like an hour and a half ago, just forgot to hit Post reply.
For home use, when portability isn't an issue - I'd ALWAYS go for the Axiom 49:

[EDIT: Just seen the Axiom PRO for the first time. Are they worth the extra £'s?]
God damnit. I can't handle this anymore. I ... read threads like these and then I want to go splurge.
Now I want: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Novation...04-i1460806.gc
I'm going back to Guitar Center tomorrow during the day and will sit there the whole day playing with different keyboards.
Thing is if I picked it up, I would be hooking it up onto my Maschine. So I already have pads.
I really have to go and try out different keyboards.
Take a look at this:

I wish it was cheaper because I want a SL25 so bad.
What do you guys think about buying shit off Craigslist? I mean I found a few good deals on these keyboards and one or two are super hard to believe! Like the price is a steal! He's selling it for like $350 when MSRP is $599 for a brand new one. The MKII Novation with 61 keys.
I really want to buy it, but I don't know if it's fully working or if anything is wrong with it.
I have an Axiom 61v2 and a real piano in my home and, while you can definitely feel the difference, it's not nearly as bad as people make it seem. In this price range (about $300) I think the Axiom has the best feel.
Yeah, thugbear2005 definitely knows what's up. I play several of the grand pianos at school and have had my Yamaha keyboard for 17 years. Yamaha works flawlessly as a midi controller. But, for the price range, I would suggest Axiom because of the feel when playing.
Well then I suppose this is completely a matter of opinion. When I played the axiom, it felt like it had this weird resistance throughout the keystroke, and then at the bottom it felt like hitting cork (bleh). The novation had no such resistance and the feeling at the bottom of the keystroke was much more satisfied (granted nothing feel quite like a hammer striking a string on a grand piano :) )
Let us know what you decide coldfuzion.
Side Note: The one im buying is off craigslist so anyone have any things that I should watch for before buying it? And should I ask him if I can open it and try it out before as well? If everything is fine - which it should be - ill give him the cash?
Anyone? I'm leaving in an hour - any comments regarding this would be appreciated - sorry for hijacking the thread.
Hope all goes well compadre!
Yeah I would definitely ask to open it and play it. Anybody with some packing tape can reseal it and you have no idea what's in the box anyway. If he gives you flack walk out.
Think I can just take my laptop, plug it into garage band and just play around with it? That seem like a decent test?
Just met up with the dude, he was really cool. We connected it, he played a bunch of diff tunes for me, i checked it out. Thing was literally brand new. I jus bought it from him. The Novation SL49 mk II for $340 brand new.
pretty amazing man. grats!
Haha thanks dude. Sick part is I get the warranty too, I just have to register it. And it came with FREE Ableton Live Lite. However I already purchased Ableton 8 so it's semi-useless but I guess I can sell it to make back some money. Pictures are up in the show your setup thread. :P
Thank you all for your help! Sorry for derailing the thread - we can go back on topic now :).
