It comes with a full version of traktor pro 2??
What about all the people that already have traktor pro 2?
Will we see a version available without the software?
Any thoughts
cheers all

thats a very good point, im sure they will have to release a controller only now that most people will have tsp2. Keep your eyes peeled for something i say :)
What I've read from their forums is that from now on S4 will be shipped with TP2 and existing S4 users got (will get) a free upgrade to Traktor Pro 2.
Imho it's a wise call from them, now they don't have to maintain two separate Traktor SW branches (S4 and Pro 2), so they can combine the resources on one product only. I have my doubts that they would release a new controller simply because the SW was upgraded. Traktor S4 SW was basically a Traktor Pro 2 without the colored waveforms, so the upgrade from S4 to TP2 is not that major :)
not sure you got me?
not asking them to release another controller just wondering if we would see an s4 package for sale without the software as i will already have both normal pro and scratch pro already. i don't need another copy of the software.
Surely i'm not the only one in this situation.

If they don't, they will miss out on a growing target group which owns Tpro 2 and are looking for an interesting controller. Buying the S4+Pro2 combo when already owning Tpro2 could actually be a reason to look for a different controller.
I don't think those would need two different resource lines...
Yes. KS4 is a complete DJ solution. It is supposed to provide everything in a box and it will always come with the full version of the latest software (or so ive been led to believe, pretty sure of that)
Doesnt seem that that is a concern for NI. Just like their scratch upgrade product they come with the software.
They have always billed as an All-In-One solution. Its aimed t people that have no software which is a bit short sighted.
Doubful. To reduce the price of the Kontroller for a hardware only version would be very difficult for NI. I think its been sold at a pretty low price point within the controller market.
The software bundle help keep the price at what it is but if you take software and soundcard out of the price you not left much for the just the controller.
I just dont think they will do it.
Is the sound card in it just the equivalent of an audio4? Maybe not even that? its one out and 2 ins isn't it?
i cant see them reducing it. with or without the software. supply cant keep up with demand as it is... its like apple i guess - they dont reduce their products because they sell regardless.
you can always sell your copy of TP2 or the copy that comes with the controller.
4 mono in 4 mono out, same as Audio 4.
Short Answer: No.
Longer Answer:
Before I even read through the thread, I can tell you from a business stand point price reduction of a product such as the S4 is a big negatory. They will not do that, it would be self destructive. I will go into this in detail if need be, however for the time being i'm over typing out a five paragraph essay on business models and what not to do.
After going through the thread answer:
Karlos said it best, well I guess he's expected to have anyway since he is our liaison to Native Instruments.
There simply is NO reason for them to do such a thing as reduce the price. The product will continue to sell, and in no way, shape, or form are they restricting you with software either. If you already own a copy, simply toss it up on Craigslist or eBay after de-activating it and you are more than welcome to transfer your ownership rights to some other happy soul who is in search of such software.
What he said^^ If you already own T2 you just sell it.
i really do get the whole fact i can sell it and what i need to do to sell it etc ,... but i would have thought now that pro 2 is out there will be a hell of a lot of people buying the s4 who already own traktor pro 2.
Were going to be over run with licenses being sold on ebay and the forums. Over run with licenses that could have been sold brand new by NI when needed by people.
Having said all this I'm still working out what body parts i can sell to try and get one :)
So far I've ear-marked my audio8, my djm600, and my vci-100 ..... nearly there :)
I don't understand how you are correlating the two.
If someone was strictly waiting for Pro 2 to come out before buying the S4 then they should have done a bit more research and found out that they would get a free upgrade to Pro 2 when the software was released.
Ahh, well that's slightly different from what I gathered from your previous posts.
For scenarios like that, I believe you are out of luck. I know you would have to pick up the scratch upgrade and pay for that regardless though if you wanted to use time code via your S4, so that isn't really wasting money there.
$300 cheaper with free tsp2 would be perfect :)
I can't be alone though.
I also think it will be an upgrade to pro 2 that will actually get people thinking "I NEED AN S4" It wont be until they get those sample banks etc that the s4 will start to make sense to them.
I'm not talking dropping the price by the full cost of a pro licence. It just seems a waste only having the option of the full lot when a lot of people wont actually need it and they'll just get blasted onto ebay or being sold in forums. Wouldn't NI be better selling them wasted ones at full price to some other punter, and probably making a bigger mark up than they are by selling that license bundled with the s4?
I'm not saying i understand business here and there is probably something i know nothing about that is making me think how others don't seem to be. At present the package is 899 euros for everything, traktor pro 2 license is 199 euros.
Say they did a unit alone for 799 euros, my license that's just going to get loaded on to ebay could be sold by NI at full price making them more money?
Where did i go wrong? what did i forget? :)
Blow me out the water ... i think i need educating hahaha :)
Your first claim about people realizing the S4 would be perfect for them after using the Tpro 2 is dead on. You are correct. I guess this is why they have demos but for people like myself who need to take time to dive in to new techniques I guess it would require me to purchase it first.
What your saying does make sense, but I think what NI (and ALL other software companies) tend to keep in mind is the fact that people no longer hesitate with torrenting software. People don't give a shit that some poor guy put in hours of his life to create software that you want to use for free because you're too stingy to spend $150 on something you will use to make money and use for a long time. It drives me insane because I know if anyone did that to us (as in EVERYONE ALIVE) for time we invested in creating something and selling something we would all be furious and have our guns in the air.
I do see where you are coming from though.
ah i hear you... sneaky pirates ... ooowwhhh aaaarrgghhhh ;)
I garantee you the price of the S4 will come down. In standard NI fashion it will be them just clearing thier inventory in anticipation of their next new and improved controller. So when you see the big price drop run out and buy it. Then proceed to bitch about how NI gave you the long hard one when you see the beautiful new Kontrol S Eleventy.:p
*Rubs hands waiting on cheaper S4*
Though if you think about that controller is pretty damn cheap once you take out the cost of the software...
As you can purchase Maschine controller without the software (449$ vs 669$ with the software) I guess one day some will also be able to purchase the S4 controller ONLINE, so NI have proof the user already own a legal copy of the software. I don't think they will take out the Whole software price though..

If you are short on cash and really want a KS4 check out zzounds.com where I purchased mine. They will spread out the cost between 4 credit card transactions basically only charging you 222$ or so for 4 months. Highly recommend them, they are great.
EDIT: same goes for Maschine. Get them both at once and spread the charges across 4 months (and no, I don't work for them).
I'm in uk :)
i aint read every comment in this tread as my connection is acting up,
but i have to agree with MisterMoleyMole,
a slightly cheaper stand alone S4 would be sweet and would make a lot of sense considering, they could be loosing a lot of hardware sales due to people already owning TP2,
100 smackers less without the software and even i would buy one
and i already have an S4 ;)
i dont kno if this has been said in the tread yet but i dont have time to read the hole thing. what if someone wants scratch pro two cause they want to use timecode with there s4 as a mixer sort of thing
yeah true but its abit of a hassle and if you dont get all of your money back
