I'm submited, let us know any news.
There would be any charge to update to the new version?
I received a VIP email... free upgrade.. I had version 4.1.. and the "Elite" thingy checked in the Options :P ph33r :p
Nice, thanks for sharing it!
This weekend will be a long one, finally getting my hands on my first macbook :D
Would I be right in thinking that I should reanalyse all my tracks with the new version if it has this improved key detection?
sweet. cheers for the heads up ;)
sweet! got it free! :D
i thought MIK promised free updates for life ?
hmmm...
EDIT: to all the people who got it free, how?!
Still undecided, waiting for a review.
It seems if you purchased MIK before the end of 2008, you get lifetime free updates, after that you pay the upgrade price.
I paid the $29.99 upgrade, as i really needed the multiprocessor analysing ... this i7 scanned through an entire rippped CD in a few mins, pretty impressive, so wasn't worth arguing over.
It has changed a couple of tracks keys on some other older tracks, and i feel the are correct now (haven't checked the old fashioned way with a keyboard and ear - but that's for later today).
downloading now... not going to lie i had the pirated version for a long time, but now that im not broke and now that i realize how vital this process is to organizing my tracks I finally decided to buy it :D
It's an awesome piece of software. It's just another tool for track selection - you don't have to use it for EVERY transition.
you'll notice a huge jump from MIK2.5 (the last fully working pirated copy)
Like you i tried the pirate version, and was impressed enough to buy the real one MIK4 ...
MIK5 is 1000% better than MIK2.5
As the previous poster indicated, you don't have to use it for every transition, but it does help create really nice build ups by using the Camelot scale .. you can hear the difference ..
i got the email but though the $30 is way to much for an upgrade. that's like 60% of the purchase price and they have no demonstration of how the new version improves key logging
won't be upgrading - new version looks much better but essentially all its going to do is tell me the key faster.
I analyse tracks in advance of playing them. can't imagine being desperate to get the key of a track. Places like beatport tell you the key now anyway
Used v5 yesterday and it's smoking fast. All of the new GUI features are a nice touch as well - great upgrade and worth the 30$
Thinking about buying this...but does anyone know how it compares to trainspotter 2.1? im poor but id really like to get off that pirate copy
I've downloaded trainspotter two days ago but never tried since I bought MiK 5 for the first time 4 days ago...
I've alredy analysed all my 8k EDM tracks, the thing is pretty fast, around 8 secons per track on my entry model macbook 13 i5 2011 (with a hd 5400 rpm)
I will give trainspotter a try and post back soon...
As excited as I am to get the new version I am a bit underwhelmed with the upgrade price, should be less imo.
I just started up MIK 4 and got the message I was eligible for the free upgrade. If that doesn't happen you can also just copy your VIP code from MIK 4 and use that to get the free upgrade. Woohoo!
From my limited use so far it's definitely faster than 4 and given that I have an 8-core desktop, I can now analyze 8 songs at a time. Pretty cool; wish Traktor would implement that feature ;) The other cool thing is if you look at the song in MIK it will show you key changes on the waveform; not that big a deal as they're usually audible and if they're not, they don't make a difference in mixing anyway. But still a cool feature anyway. I'd be interested to hear how accurate MIK 5 is compared to using ears and a piano or whatever; I'm not a musician and I don't have a music background so even though I'm pretty confident I can hear whether songs work together or not, I couldn't tell you anything about what key they're in other than what MIK tells me.
Anyone else type in the key manually? I always have my guitar tuner at hand and can ID the key within about 5 seconds of each track, keying them as I sort them in traktor :P
Anyone know if you had the pc version if you can buy the 30 dollar upgrade for a mac. I always hated how they made you purchase the whole thing again to a mac version. It would be worth it to me to upgrade if I could finnally put my pc away for good. I only use it for mixed in key!
ooh sweet - I bought MIK in 2007... free upgrade for me!
So yeah i gave trainspotter a try and honestly i thought it was going to be too complicated for my purposes. Maybe i just needed more time with it but I see this as relatively auxiliary software and therefore should be easy to use. So i caved and bought mik5... as a new comer I cant say how accurate it actually is, but i will say its 10x better than my cracked copy.
Just my thoughts.
I wish they would specify what exactly has changed with how they detect the key. Last I checked they were still using the tONaRT Key Detection algorithm. That's not to say they haven't moved away from that algorithm but exactly what "improvements" have been made?
I like the software they just have some really bad buisness practices.
First with requiring an internet connection for versions beyond 2.5. I get it they want to deter piracy that's a legitimate excuse, but instead they come out and say that it's required because they have "very expensive servers" that require you to connect to them for key detection.
Second, up until about 6 months ago they would charge you to use MIK on Windows and Mac. They required a seperate license for each OS. They stated that it was not their practice but the practice of the OS makers and that they couldn't create multi-OS program without charging for the seperate license. After asking for a reasonable explantion on their website I was sent an email that stated I would be given free upgrades for life if I were to purchase the seperate license. Looking back on it now that would prolly would have worked in my favor with how much they are charging for upgrades.
Third, charging so much for an upgrade where very little has changed to the actual coding besides them optimizing it for todays technology. They can charge whatever they want it's their software but don't expect me to like it. They should have charged a 10$ upgrade fee and called it 4.5 as they changes are not that significant to warrant a full number jump.
But that seems to be the trend in software development. Code in just enough features so the majority of past consumers will upgrade. If they acted like they need their customers more than we need them I think it would go along way.
I got it free... now that I think of it I may have purchased the Mac and the PC version at some point.
"They stopped this policy some time ago, email them"
Email them today with all my info, np!! gave me a free mac version, not the upgrade to 5, but at lease now I can finally put the pc to bed forever. it was silly to use it just for tag tracks!
