Errmm no.
Its 4 decks....2 track decks and 2 sample decks.
or 3 track decks and 1 sample decks.
or 4 track decks.
4 track decks and 2 sample decks would be 6...innit?
That's disappointing... being held back by the technology now haha
So there's basically 0 point in having an S4 AND an X1
I am raging here, is there any alternative?
Nope no point in an S4 and X1. And so then if it isn't possible sir, you're looking for an alternative to what?
Traktor + Ableton.
I DJ using 3 decks (occasionally use 4) - and I wanted to have the opportunity to use my X1 for another 2 sample decks on top of that, so I can dj like I normally do and then have the X1 for samples but unfortunately it's not possible.
My X1 is being wasted at the moment so I may aswell sell it.
I was looking forward to using samples!
get a second laptop plus an externa mixer :) that way you can use 8 decks
Have you considered using Live in conjunction with Traktor at all as Onimode suggested?
Yes, although I have no experience with Ableton Live and feel it may over complicate my workflow.
I just want the ability to be able to play around with the sample decks whilst keeping 4 deck functionality for songs.
I have an AKAI MPK MINI keyboard - I guess I could map that to Traktor and use the pads for FX macros?

Mapping the X1 to Live is easy peasy.
Did you not already know the limitations of the software and how many decks it had before you bought the X1.
You must have known what Traktor had to offer..?
If you need to use 6 decks for DJing you really need to be looking elsewhere than Traktor or get another laptop running Traktor and sync them.
Karlos - I knew you could have a maximum of 4 decks but I thought there might be a chance you could have 2 sample decks ontop of that. I had the X1 before I bought the S4 and intended on selling it, I'm trying to find a way to incorporate it into my setup and I thought using it for sample decks would be perfect as I have never used the sample decks before.
Do you really think that 4 decks + 2 sample decks is too much to ask for?
For 99% of us that don't only play minimal or deep techy house yes it is to much to ask for....
Its not to hard to switch from sample deck to track deck so you should think about that....
Also, you could map your x1 to alot of functions...even loading functions to make changing songs faster....specialized effects combinations? I highly doubt that you are mixing 4 decks continuously and dropping samples on top of that...it wouldn't sound to good in my opinion unless if it is very minimal stuff.
Minimal House x 4 = House ???
just map something to switch the track decks to sample decks if you need to.
i would rock an x1 with an s4... able to control all 4 fx units at once, individual control on each sample slot... (sample deck mapping)
there's a map for that :)

I could see using the X1 like I use my Maschine for special super knobs and different effect selections on the fly, also controls for the sample decks missing on the S4. But 4 decks and 2 sample decks all at once? I am having enough fun getting down just 2 decks and samples.:D

Um, I can't imagine the sound card is a determining factor. It only puts out what it gets in sound data.

No im not saying that they design Traktor around the soundcard im just saying that NI consciously make the soundcard to fit the application. They know that people want to use Maschine or Ableton with Traktor hence the TA10.
I guess they just dont think that anyone would use 4 decks and 8 sample slots as thats getting into deeper territory.
Doesnt look like they are developing a Audio 12 anytime soon anyway.
