check out the sasha and digweed yacht parties on pootube they seem to have it sussed
But do they have all the requirements. Like whats down there?
Sorry this is a crap threadjack.
Id say that you need all your gear flightcased and secured down cus its gonna move about a bit no matter how nice the weather is. Will the boat be moving or is it shored-up.
Ship Ahoy !!!
You shouldnt worry too much, unless you run into bad weather. I would NOT recommend having you lappy on a uberstand, make sure its flat on a table or a slanted laptop stand. Do be worried Ill talk to Davie Jones to take it easy on you when is the gig?
*arrh* Im Golden Shellback, I crossed the international date line & the equator @ the same time!
Look out for icebergs too :p
Seriously though - there could be power issues that you might want to try to avoid depending on the quality of the power on the boat.
I would personally take the same precautions you would if you were mixing off a generator - read this thread for some more info on this

Get a slip-proof mat for each piece of gear. You can get them at most car accessory stores (ie SuperCheap Auto) or Walmart style places. Also boat stores. They will be key as.
Get waterproof casings for transporting stuff as you never know. Definitely a power adapter with surge protection.
And of course some hookers and blow.
that sounds like fun. I have played a few house boat parties.
One ship here in Kelowna is a Floating Boardroom that was fun. As well there is a Vintage Paddle Wheel that we do an Industry sundays on during the summer.
Lots of fun.
I would say though just hope it does not turn out like this one ...

I was sitting on the patio of a close by restaurant when this happend. Ended up helping to pull people out of the water. What a mess.
If you have insurance, probably want to make sure your covered if the ship sinks..
Or go the Costanza way and push everyone, walk over the grannies and get out first! (then mention how you led the way to safety)
Hopefully it's not a rowboat.
Or a canoe.
Nah but seriously I'd be concerned about power. How big is this boat?
literally, this was posted about 3 minutes before i was going to post it. i'm slowing down.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7yfISlGLNU
Ya I agree Midi controllers first the children and women can wait lol
but on a serious note
I have djed on a couple boats and the only thing thats different is people falling over so be sure your stuffs on a sturdy stand or table and that your speakers wont fall over maybe dont put them on stands ......other then that theres really nothing that can go wrong unless you get sea sick and barf all over your equipment lol then your screwed
thanks for all the help guys..
im gunna go buy some slip mats for all my gear and make sure i have a power board with a surge protector.
and probably get some hookers, i already have all the blow i need haha
haha nice one
I love this thread . Everyone has made jokes and then offered some decent advice.
Humour and Knowledge at the same time. Everyones a winner. The O.P gets his advice and we all have a giggle along the way.
One thing though, if your set sucks:

I Love DJTT.
DJ Kue from San Francisco did a sweet remix of I'm On A Boat that's quite playable.

another question i just thought of.
im thinking about using my samson resolv 80a's as the speakers. do you think they would be good enough for about a 80 or so person party?
I rekon they would be enough, not ideal but decent. Tho a sub would be nice addition..... Loudspeakers always are a win for parties (look better as they are bigger 2 ;P).
On another note since your using monitors DEFINITELY get a hardware limiter to go between your mixer/soundcard and the speakers.... I made this mistake and paid for it with 2 blown tweaters and having to wait 3 months to get my Mackies back ( Still dont have them :'[ )
yeh i have a sub aswell,
was just thinking it would be easier to use my own stuff rather than having to hire some loudspeakers.
do loudspeakers use an RCA jack? so i can plug it straight into my soundcard?
