Being that this is a world wide forum, have you heard or seen any zombie computers, yet? I've been following this for sometime, being that my previous lappy got this virus!
i think this might be the virus i have. is it the one that was supposed to communicate with some server today (april fools)? im not connected to the net on my laptp so i have no idea if it worked...
One of my friends mentioned this too me yesterday and linked me to a news article about it but I'm not too worried. Just gotta stay smart when trolling the interwebs ;)
i really hope this is a april fools joke, and not the real deal. Check my lappy got infected i have to clean the HD clean and start from scratch.
I just got this email...
Quote:
The Conficker worm is scheduled to possibly cause widespread damage April 1, 2009.
Severity: High Risk
What is it?
The Conficker worm is a type of virus that lives unnoticed in your PC while spreading itself to others over the Internet. Currently the worm does not harm infected computers, but it has the capacity to cause considerable damage at a later time. Experts fear it may cause damage starting April 1. Steps should be taken to protect your PC from this worm.
Who is at risk?
Users whose computers are not configured to receive patches and updates from Microsoft and who are not running an up-to-date anti-virus product are most at risk. All customers who have a ZoneAlarm product that includes antivirus have protection, including ZoneAlarm Antivirus, ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite and ZoneAlarm Extreme Security. Each of these products not only includes anti-virus, but also the OSFirewall which monitors and blocks dangerous behavior within your operating system.
If you are running ZoneAlarm Free Firewall as your exclusive PC security software you are at risk, beause it does not contain both antivirus and OS Firewall protection.
complete bs. This is not real.
hey if microsoft put up 250k of there hard earn money, i think they mean business...but I could be wrong and it could be a gimick for people to buy windows 7 & anti-(fill in the blank) software.
I use Mac OS X. Not expecting unpleasant surprises tomorrow! :D
Mr Freakerz now, we dont want to turn this into a pc vs mac thread. :D
Someone had to say it!
Now we can just move on :P
I know, im just a bit worried for all my fellow DJ's on this board that might be affected.
well wats not real? the virus is real, because i have it.
are we saying that todays predicted event is not real?
man I had the virus and it was no joke, any usb thumb drive that you hooked up got infected and they next computer that you tired to hook it up to would have the same problem if you didnt have a decent AV.
yea ive still got it on mine, messes with my ipod hard. also its the only cause of BSOD ive had in the past year
This might be over hyped but it is by no means bullshit, if you read any tech forum/ blog you will have seen it mentioned.
The hype is over the fact that when you decompile the virus you can see that it is designed to contact any of the many thousands of servers that this thing has setup around the world on April 1st 2009.
If you install patches and take all the usual basic precautions your computer will be sweet though.
i wonder what viruses will do when we have chips in our brains?
sorry the BS comment was in reference to the email JesC received and not the virus.
well its april 1st hmm.....
It's one of the sturdiest worms/virusses around at the moment, so by any means it's real.
The 1st of April contacting? Don't know really.
I still think, this is the ultimate worm/virus for any Dubstep addict. ;)
I had it and had to manually remove it. Then the press coverage encouraged a lot more "how to remove it" tutorials to pop up that made it a lot easier to track down. MS has free removal tools if you care to update (or can even access those AV sites, given that the rootkit blocks access to them...).
Some of those rootkits are NASTY to get at, like having to kill explorer.exe just to see if they exist.
The DOD had banned their employees from using thumb drives.
