What do you guys think about this controller?

It's a cool idea and is an inexpensive device so keep in mind the quality and feel reflects that. It also is very slow to analyze stuff and I generally found it frustrating to use when I tried it.
anything else that is kindof like this? my problem is i have to computer but i want effects to add to my mixes.
IF you have an iPad (and can wait a bit) the new IDJpro looks like it'd be a better choice, quicker analysis, iTunes integration etc...

and use no compuer, how will i use effects like Re-loop and get bpm

I think its pretty rubbish honestly. At least playing with it at best buy, it was really unintuitive imo. It just responded pretty slow and laggy. I honestly would freak out using it in a real gig.
That setup doesn't involve a computer, but the CDJs you're looking at have a Loop In/Out section. Can't tell if there's a BPM counter but if there isn't, that's one less thing for you to use as a crutch :)Quote:

if you want to use it as a controller most of the features are useless, vdj now has partnership with stanton so have the most intigration available the problem though is if you use it as a controller for dj software you lose the soundcard as it only works with the on board hardware.
You also lose the screen which if implimented properly could have been treated as an extra lcd to share information from software, unfortunately this didn't happen so you get a blank screen, so what you are left with is just a dumb controller with minimal controlls, that said you may as well get something better that is a dedicated controller and just use your laptop...
with only 520 to spend you're very limited in the decks and a mixer department unless you get a mixdeck express or american audio encore thing.
Best bet is a controller.

FX, CDJ type layout, midi controller and mixer ...
No gimmicks like a tiny waveform but would seem to tick more boxes than the cd in a box (which won't even play MP3's).
my friend had one and I tried it out... its incredibly frustrating to use. Laggy as hell and the jog wheels just didnt seem to respond the way they do on my s2 (which I feel is very similar to my 1200's)
I say avoid it... my friend tried my s2 and exchanged the stanton for the s2 and never looked back.

missed that bit... reloop digital jockey 2 and a netbook, I have bought both off these of eBay... $250 netbook, $150 digital jockey interface edition. Even if you don't get them that cheap you should still have some spare change from $520.Quote:

i do have a computer now...well kindof.... its a netbook. ive played around with virtual dj on it but i dont know if it will be glitchy.

Upgrade your Ram to 2gb minimum, stick XP on it instead of Windows 7

Or wait for a S/H S2, a new VMS4.1, Numark N4 etc etc ...
Personally I'd go with the Xponant as its a decent piece of kit, legit 4 and decent pro DJ software (not lite version).
Now you have a computer - only you can decide what kind of DJ you want to be, turntables, button pusher, club, mobile, bedroom etc..... and then what kind of controller you want.
i have a scs4 and i love it. I have used it for 6 hour sets an it worked perfectly. l like the fact, that i dont have to carry a laptop. i dont look back to traktor.

Dude honestly your choices are limited in any DECENT gear with the budget you set.
You can:
A) Get something like a mix deck for CD/MIDI/MP3 Playback.
B) Get the SCS or American Audio Versadeck.
C) Get an "OK" controller like the VMS4.1 which will work as a mixer standalone, you can plug your iPod into in case you crash.
C) Go With a fully computer based rig and worry about a better laptop later when you have the money (like most people on here).
D) Go with CHEAP cd players and CHEAP mixer and expect to replace them or grow out of them real soon.
E) Wait until you have the cash to invest in proper controller / proper laptop / proper mixer and proper software and do it right first time.
I think its time you started doing some research on your own, your budget is limited, however your criteria is not clearly defined

What style are you into ?
Do you even need platters ?
Do you need MP3 playback ?
How much experience do you have ?
Where do you intend playing ?
How long do you need it to last ?
Can you afford to upgrade when you outgrow the rig ?
Do you want to beatmatch manually ?
Do you beatmatch at all ?

I've got an SCS4DJ and am fairly happy with it. Had some issues with recording mixes.. latency! And yes i do agree with the lack of gains/hot keys etc.
I would like to go back to using a vestax VCi MK2, alot better in my opinion.
O/A not a bad starter package just make sure you format your thumb driveS to ntfs had alot of probs with fat32.
Stanton are blumin useless at getting back to you!!! i wouldn't waist your time trying to contact them, i can't even log onto there forum.:mad:

I've had quite successful time with the SCS4 for the last few months. It does the 2 deck job well, the fx aren't Traktor quality but at least as good as VDJ native ones. The unit can be very straightforward to use but most of the problems I believe have to do with certain USB media or being not fast enough (write/read) for the unit to handle music+waveforms+beatgrids.
That's just my 2 cents. The best place for additional info and troubleshooting guides is the Official Stanton forum.
