I've got a gig lined up for a friends wedding on the 23rd and I don't have any speakers yet:rolleyes:.. I do plan on getting a sub sooner or later but, I was curious how 2 pa's alone would be? I won't be playing too much dnb at this one:( but, I will later..
Also, as far as brands go.. Have any of you heard much feed back on Behringer, Gemini, or Podium?

depends on the size of the venue, indoor or outdoor, amount of people you expect etc. generally say a 1 - 1.5 k amp with two 15" speakers and maybe a sub is heaps for house parties etc but obviously wont cut it in a gig situation. will you be in a tent or something?
I'm pretty sure the venue coming up will be indoors but, later I'm sure I'll be doing different settings.. I do plan on getting the JBL 518s sub and pairing it with 2-12 or 15 inch pa's.. I plan on getting powered speakers, don't want to deal with separate amps to carry around.. In the mean time, probably just for this one wedding I'm just curious if the 2 pa's without the sub will be sufficient. Just not sure if I'll be able to afford the sub in time for this one.. Also wondering about the brands.. Behringer or Gemini in particular??
How big is the planned room they are going into and how many people are attending.

sub is a must for about any venue if you ask me. 15"-18" sub with 8"-12" speakers. 8" is large enough by far combined with a good sub!
i can very heavily recommend HK audio lucas systems. theres alot of crap out there so test it before you buy.
Rent or buy 2 mackie SRM450s or JBL Eons and you'll be fine subs at weddings are complete overkill .
i would have to agree with darrel855.
renting is the way to go, JBL Eons are great. If you do rent them, make sure they are the black ones. The older grey ones don't quite cut it for dj shows.
they are also excellent speakers for the MC or anyone doing speeches.
i don't do weddings, never have, but i worked for a company that did conventions and small dances, and it was always just 2 eons. I friggin loved those things. tuff as nails too.
oh i think i got the original post wrong. i also agree that 2x 12" pa-speakers are enough for some random wedding. i still would like a 15" sub with 2x 8" speakers way better but if you're planning on getting an 2x12"+1x15" anyways, two speakers alone will do fine for the wedding.
and as i said: if youre planning on buyin any combination - test it before you pay. so many speakers are crap!
I'm gonna look at 2- Mackie SA 1530z's... They're a little more than what I was looking at getting but, too much is better (atleast that's what she said.. :-).. What do you guys think of these speakers??

from what i heard mackie suffered a huge loss in quality on their speakers the last years (since theyre produced in china nowadays). no experience with them myself tho.
as i wrote earlier i recommend a portable PA-satellite system. just check my last post.
I looked at the Mackie SA 1530's today and WOW! They are in mint condition, barely used... They're 2 years old but, like I said, very well cared for.. Isn't everything made in China these day?? If I get the deal we talked about then I'll pick them up this week.
There's a huge difference from their Chinese made and their Italian made speakers . I've been seeing alot of bad feedback as of late .Quote:

how did those mackie 15's work out for you?
also, if anybody has dj'd weddings, what amount of payment did you receive? i have two weddings/receptions lined up in the next few months, but have no idea what to charge! i've searched around but couldn't find much. one will be in a smaller town in Arizona, and the other will be in Las Vegas. I don't know how much location matters ha.
for the one, they are going to pay for the equipment rental, then pay me after that, but need to know how much.
In Denver, most smaller wedding gigs go for around $300-$500 and go up from there. I did one last summer and i completely went overkill on the gear and music; but skimped on lighting effects, and only wired mics. One thing I've learned, your mostly there for background atmosphere until the main dance. For me; the 400-500 in attendance and having the reception in a small church gym made the two srm-450s work fairly well. I got away without a sub even though one would of been nice. Looking back at it, i would of ditched the 1200s, kp3, and would of settled for better lighting and wireless mic systems. Also being a Groomsman to a wedding your djing at increases the chaos!Quote:

The Sa-1530s are bad ass.. Turned up not even halfway and they were plenty loud enough even outside. I did this wedding for free, good friends... I bought a 4 light strobe that was a display unit from GC for only $30 and it was a very nice touch to the atmosphere. Lights, even small cheap units are a must for stirring the mood. I hear you on the mic deal. I told asked my friend, dad of the groom, to rent a hand held pa and he got a corded mic that didn't seem to work worth a dam. Of course that reflected back on me...
I will have to invest in a couple wireless units. All in all it was a good time..
