Depends what you do with it tbh!
:scared: This is true!
I want to map every feature possible on traktor :)
i want to gain access to all the fxs, hot cues, deck functions..etc...
Basically rip traktor apart and stick it on my setup :)
Its just alittle experiment...But do you think i will have enough buttons to map everything?
Oh yeah. Particularly with Maschine.
I'm running 2 X1s + Maschine. I find it a complete setup .... adding more is too much for my taste. Will drop one X1 and replace with F1. So content with this little rig I'm even considering selling my VCI-400 ...
If you really need a control for every feature in Traktor... Faderfox already makes this:

yeah, the 4midiloop is exactly what you need, and what I'm currently socking away some loot for. Will trim down my rig considerably and will still have all the controls I want and expect to have immediate access to
how long have you djed for?
Me? Started when I was 14 years old, now I'm 29 (God I feel old!)
fair enough. At least you've spent some time with software and hardware to know your way around and what you want to do. There is a metric shit tonne of noobs on here buying and an s4 , an apc40 a 6 kontrol x1s without the faintest idea how to map a workflow in traktor. Why the twitch?
You have djed for more than half your life.
OP- Depends what you want to do with it. Honestly while having every function in traktor mapped to a controller seems like a cool idea in concept, it is kind of unnecessary (and 2 X1s more than take care of most of it). I did that when I was first starting out and had way more money for gear than any sense and it didn't really help me.
When you're just starting it's very tempting to want to get as many controllers as possible and make the most ridiculous setup but it does't really help anything and is really impractical. It took me a while to grasp the concept of buying gear for the purpose of solving a specific problem in an area that is lacking rather than just buying stuff that's new and has pretty lights because I could.
Oliosky- I Chose the twith due to its 4 deck capability and greater fx control functions. Ontop of that it is basically a usb mixer with abuilt in sound card, and i also have the touch strip for on the fly scrolling :)
Xonetacular- Yes...i must admit that being 17 means nothing... Im still young and reckless, and i still havent gotten to that point of life where i say to myself "oh shit, im in the real world!"
The problem with me is that when i get something, i master it to about 90% and then move onto something more.
But for now i think that if this setup works, then i will certainly have ALOT of customization to do
forget the twitch i reckon. switching decks on a 2 deck controller is painful. Look at a VCI400 coupled with an F1. At least then you have four discreeet channels and a standalone mixer with a firmware update
My Price range is $1200ish and im pretty good at racking up local deals.
I was also thinking of maybe doing 2 Kontrol F1's and a Mixer (ddm4000?)
are there any other 4 deck "legit" controllers that are around the 500-600 price range?
what if you wait for the behringer cmd mm1? Do you need jog wheels?
http://djlogic.es/wp-content/uploads/NAMM-Show-21.jpg
Nope, dont need jog wheels... that looks like a great idea!, maybe match it up with 2 Kontrol F1's and a Maschine? haha
Thats the other reason why i wanted to go with the Novation Twitch...Its all built in, just gotta run everything to my Laptop then out through the Twitch
i Have an Audio 6 Coming in the mail that i ordered, so that shouldnt be a problem
The only way to know if you need more buttons is when you need more buttons :)
I think i might go with the Behringer CMD MM-1, 2 Kontrol X1's (Or Kontrol F1s?) and maybe a Maschine? (Maschine Mikro?)
I think MM1 + 2 * X1's is a very good (and portable!) setup. If you just want extra buttons to MIDI map, I'd rather look at a Novation Launchpad instead of a Maschine. Maschine is an awesome piece of kit, but just using it for the buttons is throwing away a lot of money really.
Edit: keep in mind, the MM-1 is probably only coming out in a month. But in the meanwhile, you can easily map some of the encoders on the X1 for mixer functionality. Actually, I've recently done a gig with nothing more but one X1, as the mixer in the venue was broken. Kept it basic, but it worked. So having just 2 X1's will keep you going for a while.
Thats true Stephan, i would be wasting 600 bucks on just buttons... :)
The thing is i dont wanna downgrade, since im selling my technics 1200's and getting new equipment.
I was thinking to maybe have the MM1 + 2 X1's and even maybe 2 F1's?
Does anyone know if the F1's are midi mappable?
Yes, the F1 does have midi functionality. The advantage of having a modular setup is that you don't need to buy everything at once. You could just start out with, say, an X1 and an F1, and add another X1 and F1 later on if you feel you need it.
Thats true...
Hmm, im just wondering what would be a setup that would keep my occupied for awhile :)
I know that having 2 X1's is enough, but if i added another 2 F1's then i basically have the power of 2 Maschines running with traktor
The mm1 doesnt have a dedicated Soundcard does it?
Nope, but it does have a USB hub!
Hmm, so my setup would consist of (Kontrol F1)-(Kontrol X1)-(MM1)-(Kontrol X1)-(Kontrol F1)
(Audio 2)
( Laptop )
That would be indeed be a great setup. If you plan on playing gigs in the foreseeable future, you might consider an Audio 6 upgrade. This way you can mix externally using the club mixer, instead of having to bring your MM1 (space in clubs is rather tight, even just 2 X1's and 2 F1's isn't always going to be possible). While this has only 6 outs (i.e. 3 channels), you can just route all your sample decks on 1 channel, as you'll control the volumes internally per sample slot with your F1's anyway.
Downside of the Audio 6 is price, size and weight, but an option worth considering nonetheless.
haha, what a coincidence that i ordered an Audio 6 Not too long ago...im waiting for it to come in the mail! :D
Well no need for the Audio 2 at all then! :)
Perfect! So i guess im selling my techs then! haha
Hey Stephan, you know how the F1 has a rotary knob that selects the different banks you can play in the remix decks?
Do you know if it changes the Midi Commands on the pads?
You can tell that by looking at the promo vids. It's not handled via MIDI.
Im confused on how it works :$
"Browse and load individual sounds and samples from TRAKTOR's browser, then use the push encoder to switch through 4 pages of 16 pads" - Native Instruments Hardware Detail of the Kontrol F1
So does ^^^^ that mean you would have 16 pads on 1 page that are mappable...then 16 pads on another page that are mappable to use different commands?
