Brilliant!!! Looks good!
I see on an older post the Ean bumped into this bag long time ago. Oh well. I'm still gonna get it!
maybe im just stoopid, but i couldnt see a price...
111.00 EUR
=
235.013 NZD for you Kaon
I like the look of this even though I don't use a VCI 100. Can't find a U.S. seller though. Hmm.
Upon further review, I still like what I believe is Ean's current bag (and several other VCI & controller users), the UDG Producer bag. The advantage that the Vestax bag has of course is the logo (makes you look official...especially VCI users) and the dedicated VCI sleeve. However, we may be able to talk the company (Zomo) into selling us theose VCI sleeves indivudually.
However, the UDG bag has a lot more practical advantages for a slightly better price. The Vestax bag is about $180 USD. Check the youtube posts on the UDG Producer bag. When I calmed down about the Vestax bag, the UDG Producer bag became the winner for me. I just have to figure out how to get the Vestax VCI sleeve. That I still want. I'm over the Vestax bag. Looks nice but over priced with less features than the UDG.
I put my VCI-100 in a 15' dell laptop carrying bag. Whats really nice is it had padded sides (however the front and back dont give that much protection). Works for me on a budget, and its not like i do that many gigs
i wish there was an easier way to just cut foam and then make my own bag
buy a $25 laptop case and use that.
spend money on music, cuz brand name gear doesnt get you gigs.
I returned my UDG bag and kept using my Targus. The UDG is well built but extremely inflexible.
Fair enough with the Targus but depending on need & preference, isn't the inflexibility a plus as it relates to protecting the equipment?
I posted about this on another backpack thread here. Basically the tradeoff in protection & rigidity was that you have to go along with the designated spaces. My stuff simply didn't fit into the pockets, whereas it does in the Targus. Most definitely if you can get your kit into the UDG, it will be much better protected. Which is why I'm really liking the looks of the Vestax bag: I think I can fit everything and it looks nicely laid-out & cushioned.
not necessarily.
trust me when i say that i can break pretty much anything. you have to be careful with your gear. not putting it in places where it is going to be stepped on or messed with. when in the car, put it in the floorboards and drive safely. pretty much the only reason i have bags is so i can carry it easier. i dont have a problem with damaging gear because i am super careful with it.
Yah, but then you put it in an overhead bin on an airplane and some clown with a hockey stick shoves it into the back and wedges his stick in and slams the door down, and you get kicked off the plane for trying to put a hockey stick up a passenger's ass. (Hyperbolic, but I've said some harsh things to people who shoved my backpack around and tried to mash it up to make room for their crap.)
actually, my 25 dollar laptop holds all my gear (aside from the computer, which i have a backpack i use). it works great. i have my sound card and total control packed in there with all my powercords and usb cables.
and i have flown with my gear. put your laptop in the overhead and the shoulder back under the seat. i had no issues and dont see flying being an issue. the biggest thing to protect when traveling is the knobs and sliders. make sure they are well protected and youll be fine.
if you want to really be super paranoid, go get a flight case. you should be able to find one for an effects unit that will work.
Just curious but Steveboyett, what are you carrying in the bag? I'm just wondering what you have that didn't fit in the UDG pockets. I don't have mine yet but the pockets seemed pretty big.
15.4" laptop
high-powered pad cooler
Presonus Firebox
Firefox MIDI controller
7-plug APC surge protector/power strip
Cables, laptop brick, wall wart, adapters, Hum-Ex
Mouse, Mousepad
Small clipboard w/signup sheet
Batteries, velcro cable ties, penlights
Business cards, pens, thumb drive
Demo CDs, flyers
Backup CDs (OS, apps, drivers, mixes, etc.)
iPod Nano & Belkin TuneStereo mic (for recording gigs)
Ultrasone DJ-1 Pro headphones
Shez! Are you a DJ or a camp counselor? Just kidding. I get it now. That's TRULY an all-in-one bag for you. Makes sense.
Other than the recording stuff (iPod & some cables), newsletter signup sheet , & demo CDs, how do laptop DJs bring much less than this?
Firefox MIDI controller (Is that your VCI, or your version of it?)
7-plug APC surge protector/power strip (I take those to mobile gigs but not the club)
laptop brick, wall wart, Hum-Ex (don't know what any of these are)
Small clipboard w/signup sheet (I don't have a newsletter)
(below all had more detail than most would list BUT certainly welcome info)
Batteries, velcro cable ties, penlights
Business cards, pens, thumb drive
Demo CDs, flyers
Backup CDs (OS, apps, drivers, mixes, etc.)
iPod Nano & Belkin TuneStereo mic (for recording gigs)
Usually when we talk about your gear, typically we're speaking of the hardware but again, nothing wrong with your attention to detail
computer (with power cable)
numark total control (plus cable and power cable)
dj io sound card (plus cable)
10key pad
powered usb hub
a few demo cds and business cards
maybe a chill mat if i think there may be heating issues.
it literally all fits in 2 bags.
and headphones.. that actually doesnt fit in the bag.
This is everything I take to a gig, especially when I don't know what their setup is. DJLP asked what I bring, and I just listed everything I fit into one backpack. I'm sticking with the Targus until something else that accommodates what I bring comes along. Clearly other people's mileage varies. I'm hopeful the Vestax will hold all this crap, because it looks very well made & protective.
A faderfox is a very small and astonishingly well-designed MIDI controller, difficult to get in the U.S. A laptop brick is the big rectangular AC transformer most laptops have. A wall wart is the big blocky plug many components use. A Hum-Ex is a ground loop eliminator (a gig-saver and I can't recommend it enough). I bring the 7-plug surge protector because I'm amazed how many venues -- even large ones -- just aren't prepared for someone to plug in a laptop & sound card.
The newsletter clipboard is always a judgement call. :) I make a living from my podcasts, so signups are important.
word of warning:
carrying around bags with VESTAX or TECHNICS or etc is not a good idea. the possibility of theft increases.
i try to keep mine as discreet as possible. just a normal backpack (i got at a goodwill) with padding and enough room for the vci + laptop.
but whatever works. :)
nice looking bag!
i was previously using a large laptop bag but there wasn't enough padding for the VCI-100 faders... was tough to stick in extra foam and a bit messy anyway.
so going by ean's recommendation and a few other ppl, i ended up getting the UDG producer's bag (he's got a review on youtube). fits the vci PERFECTLY, along with my laptop, LOTS and LOTS of cables for whatever combination setup i was plugging into, my HD25's, my audio interface and laptop charger with plenty of room to boot.
brilliant bag! got it in black and the offset orange in the inside looks nice!
