Hello - Some DJs refer to it is a "lollipop", "monophone", or just a "stick", but I usually call it a "cue stick" because that's essentially what it's specifically used for, cueing. I've always preferred to use this type of device while DJing rather than traditional headphones for a number of different reasons/benefits. They are fairly common amongst some older house and disco DJs such as myself. I handcraft all my own cue sticks for personal use. Yeah I'm familiar with them I just personally don't like them lol. Pretty legit that you make them yourself though.

Understandable. They're pretty rare out in the wild. I find most DJs don't really like (or understand) them either. Just a personal preference is all. Different strokes, different folks. Like a lot of other cue stick users, I prefer to do all my mixing by using a set of proper monitors, not in headphones, so for me a cue stick is ideal and have been using them for decades. Use it to simply cue up the track (knowing your tracks is inside and out is vital), set it down, and then do all the blending by ear via monitors without being tethered. IMO this technique provides a truer representation of what's really going on with the audio out on the main soundsystem/dancefloor/crowd. Having a proper set of monitors is critical though, so I do keep a traditional pair of headphones with me at all times as back up in my gear bag for gig situations where proper monitors are not available (it happens sometimes).

I've never used a lolipop, but I kind of want to. I just haven't felt the inclination to buy a set of headphones just to make one (or i guess 2), since I'm not about to tear apart the headphones I have for it.

I always kinda figured a lolipop, earplugs, and a set of nice IEMs would have all bases covered....and just pick based on how good the monitors are.

Hi - Thanks. They are just that, weights (sometimes referred to as clamps). If you're not familiar, turntable weights lower resonance and provide a number of benefits including improved coupling and center dampening which translates to better overall audio performance at the stylus in the way of tightened low frequency response with more pronounced midrange and high frequencies. Additionally, turntable weights can also allow cupped/warped records to grip the platter mat that otherwise would've slipped during cue release.

BTW for anyone interested, this unit has recently been put up for sale (link below). Currently working on a different design, but before it can be executed, this one needs to go in order to make room for new one.

Join the club! It's definitely a few notches above the empath. I had the empath rotary, and while nice, it's no 2015. You are also sticking with the rane house sound. Congrats!

Absolutely stunning. Always wanted to have a recessed desk like that. The rotary looks amazing too, bet it sounds great.

How do you like the Rane MP 2015 build quality. I was absolutely stoked by all the pictures and videos. But when I finally had one in hand I was pretty dissapointed. The knobs feel plasticy and fall off very easy, the 'feel' of these big knobs is not nearly as smooth and nice as I expected it. On 3 of the knobs the silver cap on top already fell off. Sound is great... but not really 3.4k Euro nice (3.8k $ ... yep thats the price in europe)

Overall its a nice product, but for that price I expected way way way more!

Not yet, but there will be, at least that's the plan. What you see above is just a mockup layout for now to get a feel for positions, spacing, ergonomics, etc. in preparation for doing a custom stealth mixer that'll be integrated into a custom console similar to this one for sale. Love it. IMO it's the best production mixer currently on the market. Have to admit to being somewhat skeptical about a 100% digital mixer sounding as good as it does, but it does, effortlessly. Rane hit a grand slam home run with the MP2015. Its dynamic range/headroom, sound quality, build quality, precision control, flexibility, etc. are all on a another level. Nothing else comes close except for a few vintage rotary models and a handful of custom crafted boutique mixers.

Hmmmm, that sounds very strange. Have not had anywhere close to that experience at all. All the knobs are super solid and feel fantastic. Just the right amount of resistance IMO. Not sure how any of them could just fall off as they all require quite a strong pull to remove. Guessing something must've been pretty funky with the one you used. Zero complaints here.

I ask you because i love mine, love it so much i sold my xone 92 to get the emphat and as soon as i did i started enjoying djing again. For me it seems as the simple my setup became (only mixer, turntables, cdj 1000 plus a isolator) i started djing with the same love that got me into it FOR THE MUSIC!!! Anyway amazing setup you have, enjoy!!!
