Rane 62 = aprrx $2000 from Stores Traktor Z2= apprx $799
Why?
I know native instruments has a more diversified product line inventory so Rane may need to milk their mixer line but damn the price difference! Why do you think rane mixers cost so much. I was looking over the specs of both and cannot rationalize the cost for Rane's 2channel mixer to be sold for so much now. Even the DJM-t1 is under $1,000.
Havent touched a Z2, but I just know it isn't even on the same level as a 62. Thats why
I love a good mixer as much as the next man but the truth is the build of the new rane's isnt all that. the buttons and knobs feel naffQuote:

5 years ago I never saw traktor being played out every1 was on serato, now when I go out the majority are on traktor, the people I know who use serato say they use it because its what they are used to and if they where to start today they would go traktor scratch.
Serato/Rane used to be the premium option and there was a snobbery against traktor that has now changed. I think rane are riding off there past reputation. I think the z2 will outsell the rane mixers, also the rane mixers arnt holding there value where as there sound cards are for the time being
The Z2 is as solid a mixer as I have ever touched. I really like the feel of the faders and the knobs have just the right amount of resistance.
You can't compare the Z2 to the 62. The 62 is in a league of it's own! It has on-board effects, as well
as software effects. But most importantly, it has (2) USBs, and that feature alone is what sets it apart
from any other mixer in the game.
However, you can compare the Z2 to the 61, and in my opinion, the Z2 wins that battle hands down!
NI has a whole lot to prove to me when it comes to quality. Rane has to be the top brand in my mind when it comes to build and sound quality. Not too mention their customer service and warranty serivce is awesome, NI's is and has always been a joke. I'm not believing anything about the z2 untill it is proven over the test of time.
Tell me about it. I got a chance to take a look at a Rane 61 the other day- It's a £1100 mixer yet my £300 mixer has nicer buttons and knobs. And I dunno if this is me being weird but the slots in the faceplate for the faders seemed really wide and open which I didn't really like.Quote:

Its like anything else, there is more competition from NI + traktor and other companies now, and as a result we are seeing more competition, better products, lower prices, and a shift from serato to traktor because traktor is out doing serato. Thats why you see serato trying to market new midi stuff and updatesQuote:

I think Rane's prices are higher based on their reputation - whether deserved or not. I've owned both Serato and Traktor and I found Serato to be bullet-proof - I never had a single issue with it, even when it was running on a laptop that barely met the minimum requirements - while Traktor seems more problematic.
I've just picked up a Z2 and while I would have preferred to go for a Rane 62, it's just not worth 3 times the price of the Z2 IMO. That said, if I was still gigging and earning decent money from DJing I would have bought the 62, but I'm just a hobbyist these days so the Z2 will hopefully suit me fine.

It is very hard to compare the Z2 and the Rane 62. I personally own a Z2 now, and I have used a 62 many times. For the price tag and for what they both do, Id still take me Z2 over the 62. I dont share my mixer with anyone else, so having two USB ports isnt really needed.
Price tag on the 62 is what kept me away from it, id rather buy a DJM900 Nexus for that price tag.
I also came from the Rane57, which I actually was able to sell to break even to buy my Z2 and keep the road ready case that came with it when I purchased the mixer used.

I dont think mine is 10" i actually have aboout 2-3" of padding on each side, but length wise I am more than good. Ill have to check it when I get home, ive just been happen to use it didnt even toss it in there yet.Quote:

3 Immortal magnetic faders vs 3 short body Mini-Innofaders.
A pair of 32f-Bit 20 channel soundcards vs a single 24 bit 6 channel card.
Rane engineered converters and signal processors vs a first attempt at processors by NI and licensed converters.
If you keep going, and look at the control durability of the S series vs the control durability of every Rane product since 1981, price just starts to disappear.
The more apt comparison is Z2 vs DJM-T1, and even that pretty much shitkicks the Z2 in almost every way, point for point.

I owned the T1, liked it but never loved it. One of my biggest issues, though small was that it did not have a dedicated filter knob. Additionally the sound quality was not as good as my S4. which I owned at the same time.
I had the mixer about 6 months but ended up using my s4 at clubs because of the portability and work flow at the time. Probably the best bang for your buck before the z2 came out.

The Z2 is only $100.00 more than the PIONEER DJM-T1 mixer. I was stating that I owned the Traktor S4 controller at the same time as the pioneer DJM-t1 fader with my turntables. I'm waiting to test this out. Z2 and Rane61/62 are simular BUT with rane you have the video option. Of all the things NI gives us they still leave out that one option. Even VDJ has video.
I personally am interested in seeing how well the innofaders work on the z2. A little concerned that someone stated earlier that the line faders are "Stiff"...me being a old school type of DJ...line faders are a must for scratching. I'm going to stick with my vestax07pro, built in audio 6, and amazing faders....that is unless i can convince the wife to use our GC card for z2 lol...
but for the value you cannot beat it NI has market locked

Hi guys my name is djsnaps12. I notice you are comparing the tracktor and rane. From my stand point being a electrical enginer and working on turntables and mixers all the time. Traktor i have worked on several traktor parts s4 s2 mixers etc and i can tell you they use junk parts. They also do not offer parts to buy. On every s4 i have worked on the reasons there crossfaders go out so oftern is cause the board the raks rub against is only ones sided unlike pioneer rane and vestax. They have double sided raks rubing the pcb board for better conection. Once the raks get worn out you have to bend them back up to make the good connection. Also there usb ports allways break. I have had to replace several amounts of them. So any one thinking of buying traktor mixers or consoles i suggest not to. So if you where wpndering why they sell there stuff cheaper then most companys that is why.
This is why technics last so long all quality parts except the target light which i always convert over to led any ways. Same with pioneer products. Even numark uses pretty quality parts. Any ways thats my two cents on that. I hope that helps any of you to make your decision.
