Interference
I was djing on Friday and going from rca on the mixer to xlr sockets on the wall for the sound system over about 3 meters.
I was getting really bad Interference. And a buzzing noise all night.
Is this due to the xlr on the wall next to a plug socket?
I have bought some xlr to xlr cables so I'm hoping this will solve the issue........ However I have just bought a dj tech Rec mk2 recorder to record my sets
So if I go from mixer Rec out into dj tech recorder. Then I'm going to have to go from dj tech recorder out via rca to the same xlr points on the wall.....so how can I solve any interference when I'll be using this recorder this week.
Thanks for any help.

you have to figure out where the buzzing is coming from first.

Going from RCA to XLR you are going from an unbalanced audio source to a balanced audio input. Because of this there is a higher chance of noise getting into the signal. I have seen RCA to XLR work but they can still get affected by noise especially if the cable has poor shielding.
The way we get around this in the engineering side is by using DI boxes. These will take an unbalanced signal and convert them to a balanced one. This helps send the signal over longer distances without noise. An unbalanced signal is good for 12 to 15 feet max while a balanced signal can be sent 1/4 mile without much noticeable change in quality.
So if your gear has an XLR output I would run XLR right into the wall and then plug the recorder in to the RCA on your gear. If you only have RCA out I would run the mix through the recorder and then run the output from the recorder into a DI which then connects to the wall. If you do get a DI make sure it is a passive one so you don't need to power it with batteries.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm hoping of I run xlr from the mixer output to the wall. (xlr to xlr) and then just use rca from Record out to input on the recorder. And not bother with the output from the recorder.
Should I have any interference by only have rca input from my rec out on my mixer to the recorder.
The mixer is omnitronic trm402
And the recorder is a dj tech dj Rec mk2( yet to arrive)

As long as the RCA cable is under 10 feet and is in good condition you should not have any interference.
