Don't be shy, Tell what your Favorite or most awkwardest Dj moment.
The first time i changed songs and they all kept dancing like nothing happened.
WORST: I was doing a gig and was told it was a 2am finish. 2 am came, i played my last song and started to pack up. Everyone just stood and stared at me... The manager ran over and said "Karl, its 2:30 finish, play some fucking music"... i was mega embarrassed.
BEST: End of year gig at a big Student Union where i was resident. Last song of the nite was The Beatles - All You Need Is Love. At the end of the song the beatles chant "she loves you yeah yeah yeah, she loves you yeah yeah yeah"... the song ends and the house lights came up and a 1000 people sang it back to me but changed it to "We Love Karl yeah yeah yeah" i had tears in my eyes. I felt very blessed that nite.
ejecting the wrong cdj is always embarassing
isnt that what the "eject lock" function was designed for haha.. pressing CUE on the wrong track is as bad as ejecting too lol...
I once worked a new years eve in 2 bars, 1st bar i worked from 8.30pm till 1pm, then the other bar i worked in was having an after party for a gig somewhere else. It was a cosy affair, about maybe 500 people in the bar when full and it was full. I had probably only been Dj'ing in and around the town centre for maybe 6 months. I knew a few of the other Dj's from the other bars but not them all. Anyway they all seemed to be here in my bar as everywhere else was shut (it was many years ago b4 late license' where about) I played till 6am and after the last song had finished i received a round of applause from everyone in there :) but the thing that meant the most to me was the other Dj's from around the town centre all came up to me and said "good job Paul, wicked night" sort of felt like i had been accepted as a Dj by the others
notable moment: when a girl flashed me a few years back.
BEST: When I managed to save the day in a high school when the original planning of the director was ruined by a sudden rain. Everyone was really upset but I managed to move all my stuff (I was there just to have a playlist playing) indoors and rocked for 2 hours 1:00 till 3:00 in the afternoon without a single drin allowed. They even let the busses waiting to take the students because everybody was having such a great time and they booked me for all the following events of the high.
WORST: When I was starting out and my laptop crashed and we run out of music for almost 2 min. the good thing was the promoter helped keep the energy up and everyone was singing to the last song before the crash. So no one really bothered.
worst: having a buddie's stanton deck exude the white smoke of doom
best: dropping jaws on canada day when people i used to work with realized i could actually spin :)
worst: spinning at this club that was almost empty, and the only ppl in the club were a bunch of gangsters and thugs....Considering I usually play house/ top 40, I didn't have much reggae or RNB, I could only do Hip-hop, and it just wasn't flying, they needed something dutty. That night I swallowed my pride and told the other DJ who was well rounded in soca/ reggae and RnB, to take over for me. And the whole time I was spinning I just felt hte other DJs in the room looking and judging me, as well as the club manager. Not to mention nobody was dancing, and I had dragged a few of my friends out who were uncomfortable with the crowd. Just not a good experience.
best: I threw my own event at a local venue in my university town. I was lucky and able to get it the night that midterms ended, and the venue was actually probably one of the classiest and nicest places I've ever been. It had this stage that was at the same level as the dancers and dancers could dance and surround the stage while you're spinning. Unreal night. I kept hte floor bumpin all night, my buddy who MC's for me was having the time of his life, after I was done my set, and my other buddy was spinning, me and my MC both got up on the table and just rocked out to it. Not to mention we were able to kepe the floor filled till way past last call until the club clsoed at 3am. After which, a bunch of ppl congratulated us on the music we spinned that night.
Another moment I had a few weeks ago was when I was spinning with this other DJ, who for some reason, I didn't think liked me all that much. He was more of a veteran, but still almost the same age as me. Anyway we kinda got on better terms and were cool with each other now. After my gig a couple of weeks ago, he came up to me and said "Yo, just want to tell you, you did really well tonight, keep up the good work." Always nice to have someone say you did well, especially a DJ peer, you respect.
Worst moment: Not beign able to afford any DJ stuff upon years of wanting to get in
Best Moment: Being able to afford some quality stuff and play for my friends and them loving it
when i killled the table that was currently playing :P
Worst moment: working at a place where the crappy PA would overheat every night at least once and everyone looked at me like it was my system crashing (the owner was the douche pushing it). After a few gigs he even dared to ask me to leave my stuff at home, make an iTunes list and chat with the customers all night.... I'm an effin DJ not an escort!!!
Best moment: realizing during my 1st gig that I was capable of controlling the masses :p
Best= Hot chick came up to request a song and it was the one I had cued up. Dropped it the second she asked for it, made her night! She later proceeded to make my night. ;)
Playing Stripper Theme and having a girl actually start stripping. (This has actually happened twice now)
Worst/Best: played a club gig with some close friends and we all got drunk as hell and started watchin porn movies on one of the laptops in the booth. 30-45 min later a girl comes up to the booth complqining about the moaning commig out of the speakers. We then realized that the laptop was still connected to the pa ;) i'm on my iphone but will post a short video of this evening when i'm home...
And aslo my favorite moment on a particular gig is playing your one and only best kept secret song...always gives me a big smile and when the crowd digs it it makes me smil more and more

And dropping the intro of this through the track and fading it up though the break ...

Halfway though I started hearing a hellofalot of screeching and noise though my headphones, and honestly thought the system was gonna croak it!!! So started fading down both tracks only to hear the "Noise" was 1000+ clubbers singing the track with their hands held high.... I musta had the cheeziest grin ever !!!!
Track 2 got faded out and slammed up the fader just at the kick
BOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!
One of those moments you just cant replicate :D and that everyone was talking about for weeks
***On a pair of tech's back in '98;) ***
I got my beat juggling down perfect on a paractice set the other day. Dirty drum and bass line just melting together perfectly. Then I melted in my pants. Not as good as being flashed or having stripping girls, but it sounded oh so nice.
