DJ Sound Control computer mod

Holy guacamole,

Chris Blarsky, an avid Traktor-user, built that AIO DJ Pc within 4 months. It comes at a size of 23 inch.

What do you say? yay or nay?

IMHO It looks dope but I change my gear like my underwear so I wouldn't like being tied to one piece of gear (although there are enough usb-ports for additional hardware). It is also too big. I see the future of DJing in integrated solutions).

I wondered if anybody would notice this on Engadget.
If you are in New York City tomorrow, it will be on display at a Lenovo event.

Once I get it back, I will produce a couple of Youtube vids showing it off.
Anyway, what do you guys think?

Yeah, my server is getting the $h!t beat out of it right now.
I have not sat down to think about how much it cost.

For the sake of reasonable cost let's say I would
only charge $20.00 an hour, which realistically it
would be closer to double that.
Roughly at $20.00 an hour $19,200

Total cost $22,460

I actually have it insured for $35,000 while Lenovo is using it.
Then they will ship it back.

I can't remember exactly where, but I believe it was in the "DJing 15 years from now" thread that Photojojo commented about an integrated laptop and mixer.

It's pretty cool... the only problem is I don't feel particularly limited right now w/ a laptop and a small controller. Truth be told, I think they're all kind of big to be playing in small clubs. Can never make up my mind so I just take CDs and get drunk.

Every journey begins with a single step. You could totally fit most of the components of a novation twitch (for example) into a case the size of a 17" macbook pro. They'd have to be thinner, but who knows.

However, a question: are laptops still the future of portable computing?

There were like 6 pics, all with a different colour tint?

The logs had the exact same splatter type pattern.

anyways.....congrats in following through and completing it. The finish looks really good bro!

This looks pretty briliant, but how does the keyboard and OS factor in, or is it exclusively for a dj software (Traktor, Dekadance, Serato, Ableton, VDJ, DJay) based OS?

i think that all-in-one is very cool but don't like the idea of the screen always being front and center between me and everyone else. i'd rather people see what i am doing on the controller etc. people might just assume the dj is just using a standard laptop and doesn't have any kind of controller at all.

unless the screen detaches? that would be cool...

with epad things getting more and more powerfull i'd like to hope that we could run traktor on something like that in the future, which could then double up as a touch surface itself, along side regular controllers.

Anyway, I said it in the first thread... this is the one of the coolest mods I've ever seen and it definitely deserves Mod of the Year. (which doesn't exist yet)

The problem with an integrated computer/controller is that computers get 2x faster/cheaper/more energy efficient all the time. In 2+ years or so the built-in computer can't compete with the cheapest Mac laptop out there, for example.

This. On the rare occassion that i do use traktor when playing out, the laptop is put to the side, faaaaar to the side. It should be used for media storage and song selection, apart from that, your eyes are on the crowd, not distracted by your wallpaper with tits on it.

I'm glad to see such a discussion over this. :)
A few things I would like to point out .

First, you can dim the screen and the lights so they are not a distraction.
Second, I also set up NI's Reaktor so I can use the midi fighter buttons to
trigger sounds as well. (Such as Razor's dubstep!)
Third, with the multitouch screen the secondary control surface feels natural and with the larger screen, you can actually use your fingers without screwing things up.
Fourth, I have had Traktor, and multiple instruments in Reaktor along with Windows media player all running realtime and average 15% CPU usage.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with 8GB of ram and 1.5TB HD. Core I7 makes this beefier than a laptop! I don't see me needing a new system anytime soon.
Plus I also have replacement parts on the shelf in case anything fails.
Yes, including the touch screen.

Please ask any questions, I will answer them as best as I can.

but as an all-in-one-laptop-controller-traktor-monster its very very cool ;)

The great thing is, is that you only have one cable connecting it! Why can't you swivel so they can see what you are doing. Everything is available through the I/O BOX. I'm building a 360 degree stand that will allow me to spin around with no problem;)

sure - if u can tilt the screen but keep the controller part facing ahead of u as normal - then that would be very very cool... (if u mean that)

edit: and i love the lights :p not sure i'd ever want to not have those turned on :D

I think the crowd would go banana's if you started to slowly swivel around and then swivel back and forth. Has anybody seen anything like that from a DJ rig before?

One of the side benefits of an AIO is that you have a lot more mobility. No longer are you stuck in back of a table with your gear. You could do a lot more as far as performance. Plus if that annoying drunk guy keeps buggin you, you could rotate away from him.

I have to say that's pretty damned amazing. The video sold me on it. While I can't see it being for every purpose (there is a plus to just bringing your CD's and going on with CDJ's built into a club), I highly doubt anyone is going to think that you're hunched over a basic laptop all night.
