    Default VCI-300 and VDJ 6.02

So I finally got everything working just the way i like with VDJ 6.02 for my VCI-300. i used the ASIO4ALL drivers...that is until I tried to use my mic. It wouldn't work no matter what I did. Is there anyway to get the mic working?

Also, is vci-300 more compatible with Traktor? If this is the case, I'll get that instead (even though I'm more familiar with vdj)

I own Virtual Dj as well as traktor and made the switch to traktor because the effects in Traktor are far more advanced and easier to use than in Virtual dj. Also VDJ was written entirely for Windoze and was modified to work on a Mac. This is why effects are so limited and it crashes often.

Yes VDJ's user interface is 'not as busy' as traktor, however, traktor's overall performance can't be matched. (In my Opinion).

The vci-100 and the vci-300 is nativelly supported by VDJ and the latest version (6.0.8) including its mapping engine, is difficult to use and not user friendly. You can check their 'tools and drivers' section for the vci-300 latest mapper but is probably over a year old. (see if that works with your mic).

Last but not least...VDJ does not personally map any controller for better performance, not help modify, nor even come up with newer and better mappings for many controllers out there. They don't test or come up with better mappings/layouts; just native supported generic layouts...and it does video (when it works without crashing). That is another reason I don't use it anymore. (For me) its only good for testing.

VDJ to Traktor is like switching from windoze to Mac. A little different, but when your there, you don't wanna go back. Try Traktor's trial version to test out your mic.

    bcondemi,

Whilst I agree that traktor has more potential, especially in the effects department, most of the rest of your arguements about virtual DJ are poor.

There is no reason that the application should be worse on the mac platform just because it started as a windows app.

Mapping is just as easy as on traktor, its just a different system to learn. Infact, given thee VDJ scripting engine, you can infact perform far more complex actions than with traktors limited modifier scheme.

You can also, if you want to get your hands dirty, modify the hardware config layer in virtual DJ.

Finally, all custom mappings for traktor, are generated by the community, not by traktor. Just like Virtual DJ, traktor merely gives you the tools to create different setups, its up to the community what they do with those tools.

    And for the OP..

The chances that you can't use the mic are because asio4all takes control of the sound driver that also runs the mic. Try either select or unselecting it in asio and see what happens.

In my experience, VDJ has crashed on my mac and not on my windoze. (my experience) After changing software I experienced no crashing. Weather there should or shouldn't be is immaterial. It crashed for me many times. Therefore I don't like it (in my opinion).

As to my poor arguments, perhaps that's your opinion. My arguments are my own... Again (IN MY OPINION) which is not fact or science. I find VDJ more difficult that Traktor. And have found more support and the community supporting the vci-100 for traktor than support for the vci-100 for vdj.

Please...This is my opinion only. try not to comment good or bad on my experience and opinions. It doesn't mean anything.

and... I agree the community helps generate mappings for the controllers, I just haven't found any for VDJ as I have with Traktor for my VCI-100.

    thank-you

I use VDj since forever. I have to admit that bcondemi is right. VDJ is pc based, and most effects audio and video-wise simply dont work on a mac because.dll is not supported. or was it .ini? Anyways, mapping on vdj 6 onwards is a breeze, its a far more powerfull mapping enginge once you get your head around the script language.

But now, here is the catch. VDJ has never and will most certainly not support mic-in! Not on a vci300, not on a NS7 and not on a BCD3000. Whoever wants to use a mic with vdj has to use a external mixer or itīs just not possible. idk why the hell the dev team keeps it this way, as its one of the most demanded features for years.
