    Default Dj'ing Traktor with 1 X1

Hi i dont know if this has been requested or not i couldn't find it in the search on here.

so when i dj i use serato and 2 turntables mixer laptop etc. but i was thinking of running traktor on shows that require a smaller setup (driving 50 miles to show etc) so i was wondering if i could use Traktor and 1 X1 to dj, i know traktor has an internal mixer but can the x1 control it or would i need 2 x1's.

    thanks.

Depends on what you need from traktor.
If you want full use of the FX, I'd be hard to use it as a mixer too.
you could map is as one but you would have a hard time switching between mixer and FX.

the way I would use it if I had 1 X1 to control traktor:
map the shift button to toggle instead of hold.
map all fx controls to mixer controls when shift is pressed.
this way you can use it for both. every time you adjust a parameter in FX or the mixer, the knob will have moved but 1 of the two parameters not, so it's hard work trying to keep up with what you're moving.
also you'll lose the effect select button wich are now mapped to shift FX buttons

    I wouldn't recommend it tho.

damn that's become an unreadeble collection of words.
see if you understand what I tried to say
if not, I'll type it out correctly

joostiisme, you hit the nail on the head I think. Your jumble of words worked fine. haha

You could easily map the X1 to mix internally on traktor. The only problem as stated above is switched between FX and EQ.

If your not worried about the effects map it out only missing cross faders and you could map the rotaries for volume I'd say.

I think the thing is superb for effects, looping and cueing.

If you had 2 X1's you could use 1 for deck A and 1 for deck B. Have effects and mixer.

If you went up to 4 decks then youd be back to square one with twice the amount of buttons haha.

The joy of having a single X1 is that you have the X1 and your soundcard and your laptop. Thats about portable as it is going to get.

    Good luck with it!

On my X1 I use the most popular 4 deck mapping using the FX 1 & 2 buttons to switch from deck A>C or B>D and as a backup I mapped EQ to the knobs in midi mode using the same system. It's relatively easy to map and if you want I can upload mine later when I get home, but as people have mentioned there are a couple of issues with knob positions and stuff. I've found it to be a hugely flexible controller and you have a lot of buttons and knobs to assign as you wish, you don't necessarily need another one.

    NOOB ALERT

    The noob being me.
I get that the X1 is the ideal 'all-in-one' for this option - I have a similar requirement (parties, spinning classes and recording for when I teach spinning). I in NO way claim to be a DJ. There is an abundance of mapping options for this kind of set-up, but how does an inexperienced noob like myself PHYSICALLY map? I'm not looking to avoid the graft, just wanting a simple (and logical) PROCESS.
    Thank you.
